Message from Principal Sarah
From Sarah Nightingale, Principal
It has been another productive and eventful fortnight at NMPS, with a wide range of activities taking place across the school.
Prep Transition
Our 2026 Prep Transition sessions wrapped up last Friday, with many soon-to-be Preps attending. Students settled in beautifully, becoming familiar with early school routines and the learning environment.
A big thank you to our Parents & Friends Association for hosting a ‘Welcome Morning Tea’ during the final transition session. It was a wonderful opportunity for new Prep families to meet and connect ahead of officially joining the NMPS community in 2026.
Swimming Program
Our swimming program continues this week for our Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6 students at the North Melbourne Pool. A reminder that any parents assisting with the program must organise this with the classroom teacher and hold a current WWCC.
Staffing Update
This week we welcome Marie Wong and Kate Van Der Voort to NMPS.
Marie joins us as our new school nurse at the Molesworth Street Campus.
Kate joins the Errol Street Campus as a Teaching Assistant.
We are also pleased to welcome back Joe Grabin, returning from leave. Joe resumes his role as a Learning Specialist and a member of our Leadership Team.
Whole School Transition Day – Tuesday 9 December
We understand families are eager to learn about class placements for the new school year. Teaching arrangements will be shared in our Week 11 newsletter.
Students will meet their 2026 teacher and class next week during our Whole School Transition Day.
2026 Prep–Year 2 students will transition at the Molesworth Street Campus.
2026 Year 3–Year 6 students will transition at the Errol Street Campus.
Please note, current 2025 Year 2 students will begin and end their day at the Errol Street Campus (8:45am–3:15pm).
Further details about Transition Day will be provided via Compass.
2026 Class Placements
Creating class lists is a careful and considered process involving teachers, our wellbeing team and school leaders. Each student’s learning needs and wellbeing are taken into account. Due to the many factors involved, 2026 class placements are considered final.
We are confident in our staff’s decisions and know our students will settle well into their new classes. In the lead-up to Transition Day, we ask families to support these decisions and keep conversations with children positive and encouraging.
NMPS currently has 855 confirmed enrolments for 2026 across both campuses.
