From Simone, Junior school Auslan teacher
In Weeks 6 & 7 of Term 4, we have been working in groups to create and present posters about what we have learnt in Auslan this year. Students fingerspelled their names, signed the vowels A, E, I, O & U, and cut out multiple signs from a topic this year. The topics on the posters were farm animals, colours, family members, feelings, clothing and school signs. Most of the posters are now up in the Auslan room but believe it or not there are still plenty more to hang!

In week 8 we began exploring Celebrations signs in Auslan, learning and practising the signs for celebration, holiday, Christmas, Easter, birthday, New Year’s Eve, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Eid, Diwali, Anzac Day, Halloween and Graduation.
Prep students drew their favourite holiday like Bailey in Prep A:

Year 1 students wrote a brief sentence about their drawing like Pughazini in 1A:

Year 2 students wrote a detailed description of why those chose to draw this particular holiday celebration like Aqleema in 2D:

How can I help?
Print and practice these everyday signs to get your children practicing some voice-off time.

Lastly, our Auslan Student of the Week awards celebrate students who demonstrate exceptional effort, creativity, or improvement in their Auslan learning. This fortnight's winners are:
