Year 6 News

From Ben F, Year 6 teacher

Positive Practice

Well the year sixes are now entering the final sprint towards the finishing line that is the end of primary school. As usual it has been a very busy 2 weeks as the sixes got to experience a tiny taste of what next year looks and feels like, having participated in High School Practice.

To try and make it as authentic as possible the current 6 classes were all jumbled up into 6 different colour groups and now had to follow a unique timetable. Instead of the normal curriculum of literacy and numeracy the students got to experience some esoteric units taught by the year 6 teachers. These included:

  • Architecture taught by Ms Josie Jones
  • 18th Century European History taught by Mr Ben Frater
  • Film Study taught by Ms Kim Garcia
  • Health Studies taught by Mr Harrison Arnold
  • Shakespeare taught by Ms Harriet Rule
  • Visual Communications taught by Ms Hayley Pupetti

But it was not all roses and sunshine as High School Practice brought a lot of extra responsibility such as ensuring you are at class on time, completing any set homework and remembering new names. Unfortunately many year 6’s were found wanting so it was time for detention. Unfortunately many found this out the hard way and in detention many lines were written and lots of rubbish picked up at lunchtime.

Overall the vast majority of the year 6 cohort enjoyed a positive fortnight and are now a little bit more prepared for the transition to high school.
