Dear Parents,
Last week Mila Robertson and Molly Benson represented the school in the inter-school speech competition. They were both truly amazing. The judges declared Molly the winner with Mila coming in second place. I was so very proud of the work and commitment both girls put into this competition. We had a lot of teachers and family members attend and support the girls, which was wonderful. My favourite comment for the night came from one of the toastmaster judges who said to me, that both girls had all the elements that toastmasters use to teach people how to give a good speech. She said she could see the teaching that we as a school had put into the girls.
Public speaking is still one of the biggest fears people have. It is why at our school we devote time, at every level to teach and give kids the opportunities to speak in front of others.
Last week was our celebration for our Preps being at school for 100 days. One of them told me that “they feel really old, but they had lots of fun”. Their costumes looked brilliant! Thanks to our wonderful Prep teachers for making this day so special.
I always apologise when we have curriculum days as I know it is an inconvenience for working families. These days are really important to continually upskill our teachers. We always want our school to be a leader in education and this is why we invest so heavily in our teachers development every year; we believe that is why we get such good outcomes.
The school goals for this year are mainly around the way we teach reading. Although our results across the school in reading are good, we want them to be outstanding. Our day was led by our consultant and our teachers will start trialling different strategies.
150 years of wonderful education in Woori Yallock. It is pretty special that school 1259 is turning 150 years old. As you can see from the flyer it is going to be a great day for everyone. If you know any past students or staff, please pass on this date as one that is not to be missed.
Preparations are in full swing for our camp to Sovereign Hill. I’m really looking forward to this one because I get to go on camp with the team.
There are lots of forms for parents to fill out over the next month, if you’re a 3/4 parent, can you please make sure your forms are back to us before the due dates.
Have a great week!
And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book!
