Our Learning 

During this fortnight in the 3-and 4-year-old kindergarten, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:

Pre-Reading : 

Children listen to and make the sounds of the first letter in their name 

Reenacting familiar stories through the use of a small world (Little Red Riding hood, Where the wild things are and Yurrie Birthday) 

Borrowing books from the ELC Library to read at home  

Retelling story books using pictures 

Pre-Writing: 

Signing themselves in on arrival each day 

Discussing the difference between lower case and upper case letters 

Exploring letter shapes – circle shape, short line, tall line, slanted line 

Making letters and words with the clay/play dough 

STEM  : 

Introducing children to the basics of coding through Bee Bot, developing problem-solving skills. 

To develop subitising skills using dice and loose parts 

Inquiry

Exploring the Unit of Inquiry: Light has an impact on the world around us 

Group discussions and wonderings are explored 

Exploring light, colour and shadows with the use of the overhead projector, light table, fairy lights and torches  

Social & emotional learning

Cosmic kids yoga 

Listening to different types of music and focusing on how these make us feel  

Drawing emotions and ways in which music makes us feel. 

 

Celebration of learning

Enrolments for free 3 and 4 year old sessional kindergarten. 

Enrol through Casey Council for Hillsmeade Kindergarten. 

Long Day Care enrolments with kindergarten is through the ELC office.
