Upcoming Learning -Term 3, Weeks 8 & 9 

During the next fortnight, Year 1 students will be undertaking learning in the following areas:

ReadingStudents continue to engage in literacy activities using the Little Learners Love Literacy program. The focus texts for our reading relate to the Fiction Books that won awards during Book Week. Our digraph focus is the /oo/ sound and the different spelling combinations. The students will also be completing reading assessments with their teachers.
Writing Students are learning about Fiction, through narrative writing and learning about story elements, such as characters, heroes and settings. They will explore how to use adjectives to create emotions in stories, and to help visualise what is happening. They continue to work on their handwriting daily using the Hartley Program.
MathsStudents are exploring Subtraction through hands-on learning and engaging in Top Ten Subtraction activities. Students will begin investigating Fractions and what a half is. They are working on writing numbers correctly, making sure they are not reversing them. 
InquiryStudents are expanding their knowledge of Sustainability and learning about the 3R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. They will learn about the impacts of not looking after our Earth, and participating in activities around Dr Suess's Lorax story. 
SELStudents are engaging in learning activities about R U OK? Day and co-operation. 

REMINDERS:

SWIMMING: Next Tuesday we begin our swimming program. Please check the Compass message for the list of what to bring and do to prepare for our swimming lessons. 

HATS: Students will be required to wear their hats from Monday 9th September. Please check if your child has their hat at school, or send one ready to be worn from Monday. Students without hats are required to stay in an undercover area to protect them.
