MATER DEI'S GOT TALENT
On Friday the extraordinary talents of a range of students from Year 7 to 12 were showcased in our annual competition, Mater Dei’s Got Talent.
Led by House Captain’s Tempey Nicholson and Lincoln Lauder, the College was treated to a number of talents including singing, dancing, cheering, auctioneering and spinning. We also caught a glimpse of some Olympic inspired breakdancing, and Lachlan Unwin astounded the crowd with his ability to name the player wearing any AFL number, from the "pro’s" to our own Carroll Cup side.
Samuel Thomsen never gave up when his music stopped and neither did Clarice. They sang their way to great scores, but the judges were unanimous in rating Fleetwood 2.0 as the winners of the day. The Cheers squad came second and Kurt Andrew Paulin spun his way to third place.
Congratulations to all of our talented students (and the talented Ms Loy!) for braving the gong and entertaining us in Mater Dei’s Got Talent 2024.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP 2025
This week we had the privilege of hearing from 11 College Captain applicants and 31 potential House Captains. Each student stood tall and spoke beautifully as they shared with us their reasons for wanting to help connect with and guide, nurture and connect with their peers, and to continue to support the College to succeed as a community in learning, faith and service. Every student and member of staff had an opportunity to vote and we look forward to announcing the results for 2025 student leadership positions later this term.
NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION WEEK
National Child Protection Week is a time to reflect on the safety and wellbeing of all children, young people and adults at risk. We are reminded of our shared responsibility to create a nurturing and protective environment for everyone in our community. Let us work together to promote the rights and safety of children, young people and adults at risk so that everyone in our community has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
In our Diocese students can take part in a Design Competition. Details below.
SPRING CARNIVAL FRIDAY 6 SEPTEMBER
The College Spring Carnival will be held next Friday, September 6th. This is a fantastic chance for all students to show off their best faux fashion, mix and match outfits, explore op shops like Vinnies, or simply wear anything that fits the Spring Carnival races theme. There will be prizes for best dressed in various categories, including juniors, seniors, and couples. Plus, during lunch, everyone can enjoy and cheer on a horse race, showcasing each house's “jockey” and “trainer”.
