YEAR 7
Students in Digital Technologies have finished learning about the dangers that exist online. By using phone simulators, scam simulators and other case studies, students should feel more comfortable when they choose to use social media and other online platforms. Students are also currently using Adobe Illustrator to control the laser cutter, learning about colour theory and the technology associated with making a laser cut product.
Agriculture and Food students have embarked on an exciting video project focused on farm and kitchen safety. They are creating a video that highlights crucial safety tips, including correct tool usage and safe cooking practices. Students are using their creativity to ensure the video is both engaging and informative for their classmates and the broader College community.
YEAR 8
Students are designing imaginative creatures and transforming them into cuddly companions by hand-stitching with colourful felt. This creative adventure is sparking their imaginations and also honing their fine motor skills, which will result in a creative collection of hand made masterpieces.
YEAR 9
Agriculture students have been busy developing their skills around sheep production in both the practical and theory sides of sheep production. In recent weeks, they have been investigating the importance of pasture maintenance for livestock production.
Computing students have been learning about data, how to collect it and turn it into beautiful information that is useful to particular people. They are working on creating ‘visualisations’ which display the information with meaning. Previously, they had been working on project management skills, learning with a case study of assembling and disassembling desktop computers. They have learned about documentation and meeting project goals and deadlines using a range of tools.
Food Technology students have been "whipping up a storm" in the kitchens, mastering the art of cooking “Foods for Special Occasions”. They’ve gained an appreciation for the cultural and social significance of food. Currently, they’re on a creative mission to design and bake a child’s birthday cake as part of their assessment! Next, they will perfect the art of barbecuing and then enjoy planning a delightful high-tea!
Students in Timber have started the term students by finishing their Chopping board projects with a final oil coat and organsing a design for their next project. Students will be designing their own trinket box using the skills they have learnt throughout the year so far. Students will be selecting a joinery technique of their choice to make their Trinket box and design a lid to suit their design. Towards the end of this term we will start designing and making our wood lathe pen project.
Metal Have been developing their skills with a range of welding and fabrication equipment. Oxy Acetylene weld was once again popular with students producing some really nice work. The Campfire BBQ’s are starting to take shape with Oxy and Plasma cutting used to cut the hotplate and Colsaw to cut the sides. Mig welding is our latest focus with students developing their skills in fillet welding.
YEAR 10
Agriculture students have been researching and building on prior knowledge of cattle production in Australia. They have been investigating what influences the prices of beef and milk in Australia and delving into the genetic potential of specific traits that make cattle producers money! Students will use this information to inform their Assessment Task where they try to sell Mrs Brennan some cows!
Graphics students have been putting a proposal together to redesign an area in Wagga Wagga and will start designing and constructing a scale model of their redevelopment in the coming weeks. This is a project that the class is working on until late next term and their final submission will include a scale model and a presentation of the process the students have been through.
Food Technology students are delving into the world of food trends. They are investigating the factors that propel certain foods to popularity within society. This exploration involves a deep dive into the cultural, social, economic, and technological influences that shape our culinary preferences. Building upon their understanding of food trends, students will undertake their Assessment Task. They are required to develop a new muffin flavor inspired by a thoroughly researched trend. Students will then apply their findings to create a unique muffin concept that is both innovative and appealing to their chosen audience.
Timber have been busy working on their student interest cabinet project which forms their final assessment task of Year 10 Timber. This project is design to hold a dartboard and students are modifying their design to match their ideas to produce a high quality cabinet project that can be used to store something of their choice.
IST students are looking at Authoring and Multimedia this term. This topic builds on the multimedia skills developed in the Year 9 Course. Following some initial research and investigation into how multimedia has evolved in recent years, students are now working on their assessment. This project requires students to develop the concept for a brand new social media platform utilising a variety of multimedia types to present the concept including a name, logo, advertisement and mockups of the graphical user interface.
Metal students are all nearly finished the bike lift with the final projects being spray paint this week. Students now have the opportunity to design and manage their own basic project with some great ideas being proposed.
YEAR 11
Design and Technology students have just wrapped up a minor design project and are now compiling a portfolio to document their process. This project has provided them with insights into the various elements involved in design, offering a hands-on experience in how these factors contribute to creating a successful product. Through this endeavor, they have honed their design skills and gained a practical understanding of the design process.
YEAR 12
Design and Technology students are set to submit their Major Design Projects next week. With the diverse range of designs on display, the final showcase promises to be impressive. External markers will visit the college next month to evaluate the projects. The students should be proud of their hard work and dedication, as they have invested significant time and effort into their projects.
Agriculture have completed their syllabus content and their trial exams. Over the coming weeks, they will refine their skills in taking HSC past paper questions apart, determining key words to understand what the markers will be looking for in their responses to HSC exam questions.
