VCE News

On August 16th, I joined my VCE Legal Studies peers—those completing either Unit 1/2 or Unit 3/4—for a visit to the Supreme Court of Victoria. We had the opportunity to ask questions of a judge, which expanded our understanding of the role judges play in the legal system. We were then given a tour of the courtrooms and had the chance to observe the pre-trial proceedings of the Nichola Gobbo case. Additionally, we explored the court library, which houses thousands of books, including the original sentencing of Ned Kelly! We ended the day at Southern Cross DFO, where we enjoyed some food and shopping. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that helped us consolidate our knowledge from throughout the year.

Staff vs Student Debate

On the 5th of September, as part of book week, the Staff vs Students Debate was held, debating the topic ‘reading is magic’. It was a thrilling battle of wits and words that captured the attention of the entire audience for the whole of lunch time. Both teams spoke brilliantly, with excellent points, counter arguments, and great uses of persuasion. The back and forth banter between the two teams meant it was an entertaining show for everyone.  However, the adjudicators came to the decision that the staff team were the winners of the match, due to their thought out rebuttals and well written arguments. Our very own principal, Mrs Spence was awarded speaker of the match for her logical and thought provoking speech.

Staff vs Student - Aussie Rules Football

The annual Australian Rules Football clash between Staff and Year 12 Students delivered a thrilling contest. The Staff team started strongly, dominating the first half with impressive teamwork and skill, whilst taking advantage of a strong wind to their end. Led by Mr. Kight, Mr. Mathews, and Ms. Mitchell, they held a two goal lead at half-time.

However, the Students came out firing in the second half, gradually taking control of the game, using the wind to their advantage. Noah, Alex, Taliah, Xavier and Joe led the charge with relentless energy and skill, turning the momentum in their favor. The match went down to the wire, with the Students ultimately securing a thrilling victory by a single figure margin.

Best on ground honors were shared between Mr. Kight for the Staff and Noah Bailey for the Students, both delivering standout performances.
