Once again, Book Week at McClelland was an unforgettable experience for our students. The students’ enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to get involved in everything from workshops to debates and even the costume parade truly made the week special.

Some of the highlights were Mr. Hemsley’s Book trivia, hosted by Ms. Adams. The staff were the winning team but the students were a very close second and third!

Students also participated in a Pokemon treasure hunt around the college organised by Ms. Duncan, a QuickWrite Competition run by Ms. Fisk, two separate Book Club discussions run by Mrs, Fogarty and Sehora Sproule, an Illustration competition run by Ms. Imbert, and a Story-Writing competition judged by our new Librarian, Mrs. Boxall, as well as two resident staff authors, Ms. Fusinato and Mr. Spence. Congratulations to Zoey Hipwell, the junior winner, and Riley Webb, the senior winner. Local author Naomi Woodward returned to run a nature writing workshop with our students and stayed afterwards to meet with Zoey and Riley, answering their questions about becoming a published author, and offering them targeted advice.

There were some excellent entries in the week-long Book Selfie competition, please admire a couple of the entries from winning team Jasmin Salah, CJ Engel and Tamara Mills.

A huge highlight was the annual Staff versus Students Book Week debate. This year, the topic was Reading is Magic, and it was a very tough call for adjudicators Lior Isaacs, John Barton, Senhora Sproule and Mr. Blight. However, the staff team [Negative] of Ms. Spence, Mr. Hemsley and Ms. Pate just managed to scoop the win over the student team [Affirmative] of Sarah Maguire, Stephanie Armstrong, and Gabe Franklin. Lily Hosking and Kirralea Goodall also did an exceptional job of emceeing the event.

Finally, the week closed with the traditional Costume Parade with some exceptional Book character costumes on display from all six year levels, as well as many of the staff. Judging was tough but here are the winners for all categories:
