Catholic Identity
Leader: Katie Rasmussen
Recently, our staff have been involved in some Professional Development that focused on strengthening our Catholic identity and enhancing our Religious Education program.
One of the key sessions centered around John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This scripture is the Catholic Education Sandhurst imperative, guiding our work as Catholic educators. Led by David Walker, this session explored how Catholic schools are communities dedicated to developing the whole child, both academically and spiritually.
Staff also participated in a full-day Imaginative Prayer retreat facilitated by Carlie Anderson from Imagine With Scripture. This immersive experience brought the Scriptures to life through imaginative prayer, allowing staff to encounter the Word of God in a transformative way. We also gained practical tools for using this approach in the classroom, helping make the Bible more engaging for our students.
These Professional Development experiences have provided our staff with valuable insights and resources to enhance both their personal faith journeys and the Religious Education we provide to our students. We are excited to integrate what we have learned into our teaching, ensuring that we continue to support the spiritual growth of our students.
Our Catholic Identity Leaders have been busy putting together all the wonderful donations received during our Winter Appeal. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, hampers have been created and will be taken to the Tongala Community House, where they will be distributed to those in need of a little extra winter cheer.
In addition to the Winter Appeal, the Catholic Identity Leaders are now leading the way in our 'Carry a Can' food drive, organised in partnership with Catholic Care. This annual event invites students to donate non-perishable food items to help create Christmas hampers for families who are struggling, especially in the face of rising living costs. As many families continue to feel the impact of financial stress, your contributions to the 'Carry a Can' drive can make a real difference. We encourage all students to participate in this important initiative and help bring some hope and joy to those in our community who need it most.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity and support in making these initiatives a success!
Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.
The CST principles which inspire our work are:
Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.
