ALTERNATE PROGRAMS NEWSLETTER 8 MAY 2024

It’s hard to believe that it’s already May - the year is moving incredibly fast! As winter begins to set in consistency and routine are more important that ever for our students, and we encourage all our families to stick with these at home wherever possible.

Student goal setting

With the year moving quickly, we will be encouraging our students to be more active in setting goals for their learning each term and even each week. For our senior students to achieve certificates at the end of the year the hard work must occur now.

Transitions

This time of year is also when many of our students will be thinking about whether a change in program or setting might suit them. If this is the case please reach out to your program leader for a discussion.

Attendance

If you or your child will be absent for any reason please continue to communicate this with your relevant program leader. Every day of attendance counts and helps towards your own achievement.

As always, if you have any concerns or questions please reach out to a member of the team and we will support you where we can.

Seniors

Ebony Turmine is on a work placement at Greg McLennan Smash repairs. This placement was assisted by Russell Brown from Headstart. Horsham College wishes to thank Greg McLennan for his support. Students studying the Victorian Certificate of Education - Vocational Major are encouraged to take part in industry based experiences. VCE-VM is a hands-on program preparing students for work. Congratulations to Ebony for taking part in this workplace learning experience.

McKenzie Creek

What’s happening at the Creek?

Footy Colours Day has come early…

Ronnie was spotted sporting her favourite footy colours of navy & white, but it wasn’t her beloved ‘baggies’, but that of the undefeated ‘cats’. Unfortunately Ronnie had lost a bet to Ben over the result of Carlton vs Geelong last week. Ronnie wore a Geelong guernsey & scarf for the whole day.

Let’s see what happens when both teams line up again in round 15!

Go Cats!

Student Absences

Flu season has hit the college early this year, with a number of students and staff already becoming quite sneezy and unwell. We encourage families to keep children home if they are unwell.

If your student is going to be away from school, please send a SMS to either Ben (0475 830 907) or Ronnie (0458 304 615).

Year 7 Immunisations

A reminder to families to follow-up with student immunisations for HPV (Human Papillomavirus) at either the Kalkee Road Children’s Hub or Goolum Goolum. The vaccine is fully subsidised under the National Immunisations Program for children aged 12-13 years old.

Chaplaincy Book Fair

The annual Book Fair will be happening very soon at Maroske Hall. Make sure you’re following the college Facebook page for more information.
