Keeping Donvale Primary School Clean
On Sunday, May 12th (Mother’s Day), Harvey, in Grade 4, took the initiative to clean up the school grounds in preparation for Education Week. We want to extend a huge thank you to Harvey for his exceptional effort and dedication.
During his cleanup, Harvey collected a significant amount of rubbish, including drink bottles and even a baseball glove! Among the most common items he found were tiny plastic bits from straw wrappers, as well as plastic packaging from canteen items like popcorn, chips, and ropes. This serves as a friendly reminder to always dispose of canteen rubbish in the designated bins to help keep our school clean and beautiful.
Thank you, Harvey, for setting a wonderful example for our school community.
Education Week is a yearly celebration of education in Victoria, and at Donvale Primary School, we have much to rejoice in. As a school, we embody Care, Connection, and Community, and this was evident in our Education Week activities earlier this week.
This year's theme, "Spotlight on STEM," shines a light on the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our daily lives, both inside and outside the classroom. We are thrilled to introduce a STEM specialist program at Donvale Primary School this year, alongside our existing specialist programs in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Mandarin, and PE. Our dedicated and specialised teachers play a crucial role in providing our students with a well-rounded education, and we are grateful for their commitment to our children's learning journey.
Grandparents Day
This event served as a fantastic kickoff to Education Week, highlighting the meaningfulness of family-school partnerships in fostering a successful educational journey for all students. Our Grandparents and special guests play a significant role in this journey, and it was a pleasure to have them join us at the school on Tuesday
Open Evening/ Open Classroom morning
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who generously contributed to the success of the BBQ on Tuesday evening. Your unwavering support for our school events is invaluable. Special recognition goes to Louise Martin, our School Council President, and Tim Martin for their exceptional organization in ensuring the BBQ ran smoothly.
I also want to extend my gratitude to Michelle Rassias for her outstanding dedication and support across various aspects of our school, from BBQs to daily operations and student wellbeing. Your contributions do not go unnoticed.
A big thank you to Anthea Keep and Rock Kho for preparing the children for their fantastic performances, and to Emily Wallis and Deb Destefanis for organizing engaging community activities in the hall.
To all our dedicated teachers, thank you for your hard work in preparing activities, opening classrooms, and supporting Education Week activities throughout the week.
Lastly, Michelle Rassias and I had the privilege of attending the Monash/Manningham Principal Conference on Thursday and Friday. We gained many insights, reaffirming our commitment to lifelong learning and leadership in moving DPS forward.
