Term 2 Is Off To A Fabulous Start
Term 2 is off to a fabulous start and it is also jam-packed full of special activities and events; and of course a solid focus on learning across all areas of the school. I have been delighted to see all our students move back into their classroom routines quickly and well. Their engagement with their learning has been commendable and for this we must congratulate all our wonderful teachers.
Celebrating Some Term 1 Fun
Our JLC, MLC and SLC students all finished the term off with some fun-filled incursions and excursions! The JLC enjoyed a super-sized Team Building Incursion that took place over most of one day. The students on each campus had the opportunity to collaborate together to explore a variety of construction materials. They also tried on costumes representing a variety of cultural backgrounds and danced together to different traditional music from a variety of countries. The photos say it all. It was FUN!! Thank-you to Supreme Incursions!
The SLC however, went on an excursion into the city (by train) and visited the Shrine of Remembrance. Set in the cathedral-like space beneath the monument, the Galleries of Remembrance present the stories of Australians in wartime over the last 100+ years.
Our students had the opportunity to explore the artworks and historical objects, interactive multimedia, rare images and films. They also further developed their understanding of Anzac Day in preparation for additional learning this term leading up to ANZAC Day next week.
Staff Changes
Term 2 sees us saying goodbye to Mrs Casey McDowell and Mrs Bronte Grosvenor who have both commenced Maternity Leave this week. I'm sure you will all join with me in wishing them well for the birth of their first child.
We have also welcomed a new staff member to our school. Ms Kate George is joining us on the Heights Campus taking up the classroom teaching position in F/1B (replacing Miss Laura Wallace who has moved to another school for the remainder of the year). Ms. Nicole Coates has also returned from Family Leave and she will be joining the JLC team on the Springvale Campus. Please make them both feel very welcome.
I would also like to take this opportunity to advise our school community that I will be taking long service leave for most of Term 2 (with plans to spend some quality time with my husband holidaying in Europe). Miss Carly Jamar will be Acting Principal in my absence. I would also like to formally thank Miss Jamar for stepping into the role of Acting Principal during the latter part of Term 1.
PS: Don't forget its ANZAC Day next Thursday. It is also a Public Holiday and there is no school for students or staff.
Stay safe and keep smiling.
Mrs Debbie Cottier
Principal
