Principal's Message

Our children are our future...

Welcome Back

I love the winter break. It marks the half way point of the year which is quite symbolic. The chance to enjoy the winter sun is something I always look forward to as I sit in quiet meditation and thought. My first wish in returning is a message of hope. I want all children, staff and families to have had a good break and a recharge. We deal with 5 to 12 year olds whose lives are going through incredible growth and change - and that takes its toll on energy levels. I hope the children come back well-rested and enthusiastic.

The mid-point of the year also allows us reflection time to find out what we did well and what we can do better. That goes for all of us. We are imperfect humans, but the ability to think 'backwards and forwards' allows us the chance to begin again. I plan on doing better in Semester 2 than I did in Semester 1. As parents, you might want to do the same. I know we will always be asking the children to improve on their last iteration. It is the nature of improvement that we owe ourselves that chance.

Term 3 runs for ten weeks. The key dates are on the last page of this iNewsletter. I remind all parents that the first day back (for staff) is Monday, July 15 and the first day back (for students) is Tuesday, July 16. We are running professional learning on the Monday dealing with the Science of Learning. It will cover human cognition, optimal learning and explicit teaching. It is the agenda now being put forward by the State Government of Victoria and we are at the forefront. We have been invited to present at the Statewide Principal's Conference which is a great honour and a tribute to our work over the last 7 years. We are ahead of the curve and happy to share the learning with other colleagues so they may benefit from our experience.

Week 9 of Term 3 has our School Production and we hope all families can attend. All students will be practising their skills to present on the night so please get behind this community effort. Details will follow closer to the date. We also have Book Week which will involve a parade of your child's favourite book character. Again, we will alert you to any actions we wish you to undertake in support.

I look forward to seeing the children on Tuesday. I look forward to seeing your wonderful faces at the front gate when I do duties this term. I am grateful for the support you give the school. Your positivity goes a long way in setting the children up for success. The attitude of parents cannot be understated as an asset not all schools have - and we have it in spades. Long may it prosper.

This Week's iNewsletter

As always, the first edition of our iNewsletter is truncated. It is basically a welcome back with some details of the term ahead. Remember, Compass has a rundown of any curriculum you might want to reference that the students will engage with in Term 3.

Please note the important reminders for each Year Level on the Class Updates and Reminders Page.
