Principal's Report

Start of Term 2: Report Newsletter

Welcome back to all students with a positive start to Term 2.

It was great to see our students and staff return from the term break prepared for another term of learning and growth.   We recognise that the term break not only provides an opportunity for our students to refresh but also a time to reflect on their progress throughout Term 1, which is reinforced by the  student led conferences held at the beginning of this term .  This reflection will support our students to develop goals both in and out of the classroom which will lead to better outcomes for them at their point of need.

The VCAA GAT, VCE Unit One and Semester 1 Examinations, VCE SACs and ongoing opportunities for learning feedback in Years 7-10, will form a large part of our work over coming weeks. There will also be a great opportunity for a large number of sporting events, music performances, subject excursions and in-house wellbeing programs which will involve many of our students across all year levels.   Our co-curricular programs will see many students engaged in activities that will provide a healthy balance to their academic studies, and we strongly encourage them to continue to commit and partake in all opportunities provided to them.

A moving ANZAC Day commemoration was conducted on the 23 April by our College Captains Genna Windsor and Greg Acciarito highlighting the ANZAC legend and legacy in Australian History, and this was complemented by a haunting and incredibly stirring rendition of In Flanders Fields’.  This was  followed by the Last Post superbly played by Alex Robinson  - the observation of the traditional minute’s silence, then the students playing the Reveille to conclude.

I was fortunate to represent Victoria and South Oakleigh College in China during the last week of Term 1 when I travelled to China including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, as part of the Department of Education’s annual Recruitment and Marketing tour.

I proudly presented our great school to international agents and prospective students and their families – many of which demonstrated great interest in our College’s programs and the opportunities we gave our students to achieve the best they can every single day, through continued growth in academic and extracurricular support and activities.

I wish everyone a successful and rewarding Term 2.
