Welcome back to Term 2!

It's amazing how much has unfolded in just a few short weeks. As we kick off this term, we're gearing up for a whirlwind of activities and excitement. We have held our Athletics Carnival and Cross Country Carnival runs this week, where students have an opportunity to participate in traditional and novelty events, but with a focus on having fun and earning House points. Term 2 promises to be just as busy.

Here’s what has happened so far:

Congratulations to Wyndham Central College who has been awarded  “Victorian School Sports School of the Year.” Wyndham Central College was recognised for providing students with opportunities to participate in a diverse range of activities through strong connections to local sporting groups.

Ms. Gagatsis and I accepted this award at the presentation ceremony on Wednesday 27th of March at the MCG.

There are many people who have been involved in the school achieving this award, from staff who supervise the program, those who work with the community groups, office and admin, but its great for the school to receive the recognition for this work. Well done WCC!!

As a part of the awards we have won, the school received a total of $1000.00 from Rebel in vouchers to spend on equipment. Please see the photo set up by our house captains Shumough Tun Kin – 7A and Monse Romero Canales  – 7A. We are very thankful to rebel for the opportunity and know the students will benefit from the new equipment.

We welcomed a guest speaker from the Victorian Institute of Sport, a Wheelchair Rugby Paralympian. Shae Graham spoke to 7A, 7B and the House Captains, her presentation begun with a discussion on the significance of resilience, underscoring how integral sports participation is in fostering this quality. She then recounted her personal journey, detailing the circumstances that led to her wheelchair-bound status. Shae then opened our eyes into the world of wheelchair rugby, with an overview of its rules and dynamics. We were very surprised when we saw the clips of the sport in action.

Shae emphasized the pivotal role of goal setting. She spoke about how setting goals not only provides clarity and purpose but also serves as a catalyst for effective time management, motivation, and self-organization. Shae revealed her current aspiration: to represent Australia in the Paralympic Games, we wish he the best in her pursuit of this goal.

Please also check out the local paper, The Star, where we featured in an article for this presentation.

Year 7 Swimming has started and we have had great participation levels, and student enthusiasm was fantastic. Learning to swim is a vital life skill that enhances safety around water, reducing the risk of drowning incidents. Swimming promotes physical fitness, building endurance, strength, and cardiovascular health. It also fosters confidence and self-esteem, as mastering a new skill instils a sense of accomplishment This program has been years in the making, and its great that the students now have this opportunity.

Thanks to the Yr 7 HAPE teachers, Tutor Teachers and Leaders for supporting this program.

Lastly I would like to acknowledge our House Captains for their work for this term and last. They have supported our major carnivals and afterschool sports programs and are busy working on their year level activities for later this term. We held our assembly early this term where students we presented their House badges, and the Swimming Carnival Winner House Cup, YELLOW HOUSE, were presented the CUP!
