INTRODUCING KAMBRYAS STUDENT LEADERSHIP COMMITTEES
AND THEIR CAPTAINS
Our Student Leadership Committees provide opportunity for all students to come together to collaborate and explore ideas to make Kambrya College the best place it can be for everyone. Whether its participating in events, organising activities or implementing changes it is all about students working together as a team and empowering each other to make a difference. Along the way, valuable skills are developed such as student voice, leadership, team building, confidence, organisation, communication and many more. All year levels are welcome to join a committee and if you are unsure, come along and try them all out, every second Thursday in Gwonawa building. 😊

Culture and Diversity Committee
Prachi Sophie
This year, Culture and Diversity committee had once again hosted the famous Harmony Day cultural performance! A lot of students had shown interest in our Harmony Day performance this year and in order to give them all a chance, our committee had successfully requested for an extended lunchtime! This year we had performers from year 7s through to Year 12s showing off their talents in dancing and singing! It was a great day enjoyed by everyone. Culture and Diversity organise activities and events to improve school culture, increase awareness, and create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and welcomed. Our upcoming activities currently being discussed is IDAHOBIT and Sorry Day. Through promotion of our committee, we are aiming to attract more members, so that we can enhance our representation of our student's culture! The more members we have, the more students can get involved and the more events we will be able to organize together! Our members would also be able to take advantage of their involvement in our Culture and Diversity committee at Kambrya, by including this in their resumes!

Events and Fundraising Committee
Aish Jolie Aimen
As you probably know, the events and fundraising committee (it’s in the name!) initiates and manages events and fundraisers for Kambrya throughout the year. From coming up with ideas for new events to hold, to executing them and promoting them, we’re all about creativity! We all brainstorm and work together to share responsibilities and bring more fun events to Kambrya. Free dress days, competitions, games…here’s where it all begins. We’re constantly working to make Kambrya events and fundraisers more fun, engaging and enjoyable for everyone at the school, and we’d love your help! If you’re someone who loves planning for, executing, or participating in events, pop into our meetings every alternate Thursday. We absolutely love seeing the growing participation and interest in our committee! It’s a super friendly and open space, where everyone’s open to sharing ideas, collaborating and building creativity. Aish also helps plan and execute events outside of school, and keeps sharing her experiences here and there :)
If you have any suggestions, questions, or simply want to reach out, feel free to message/email Aish, Jolie and Aimen. I promise we’re all nice! Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces at our next meeting!

Facilities Committee
Pragya Prahalpa
As the captains of the facilities committee, it is a place where we embrace concerns and challenges about the school. We collaborate with Mr. Wilson and members of the student body to create solutions to the problems we are facing as students and discuss the implementation of these ideas. As a part of the facilities committee, students can talk about changing the empty spaces, ways to create more space, schoolwide cleanliness, and the canteen. This year we plan to discover ways to utilize empty spaces and create more places for students to enjoy. The more students we have in the Facilities Committee, the more diverse perspectives we have. Your unique insights, ideas and engagement in the decision-making process is valued and fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility creating a sense of pride and identity within Kambrya College. We hope to see more of you at our next Facilities meeting!

INTRODUCING KAMBRYAS 2024 DOMAIN CAPTAINS
Our Domain Captains sit within our Curriculum Committee and contribute towards creating experiences and opportunities for students to learn more about different subjects and encourage participation to increase their knowledge and interests.
Technology Captain
Hello, I'm Danial Koushandeh, the Technology Domain Captain at Kambrya College. Learning coding is essential for various reasons—it enhances problem-solving, analytical, and logical thinking skills, which are invaluable in diverse fields. As the Technology Domain Captain, I aim to establish a coding club where students can engage, learn, and collaborate on coding projects, fostering a supportive community for problem-solving and innovation.
LOTE Captain
Hey! My Name is Nidhi and I’m your LOTE Domain Captain for 2024! I am currently a VCE Japanese student so learning language is a passion of mine! Throughout this year I would like to help students explore the culture behind languages learnt in Kambrya such as German and Japanese with a range of exciting activities sharing traditions such as Japanese calligraphy as well as indulge in new experiences such as food stalls. Looking forward to working with everyone to make languages well known!
English Captain
Hi, I'm Freia Teja the 2024 English Domain Captain. As given the opportunity, I would like to promote the English Domain and help take this domain forward. I hope to create an engaging learning space for English and help those undertaking this domain excel in their studies.
Performing Arts Captain
My name is Saskia Kirby, and I am the Performing Arts Domain Captain for 2024. I aim to assist in further promoting all aspects of the performing arts within Kambrya College, such as courtyard performances, performance nights, the Kambrya production and many others, and I hope to encourage students with a passion for the arts to get involved with any of Kambrya’s programs and extra curriculars.
Science Captain
Hi everyone, my name is Amna and I’m the Science Domain Captain this year. There are many upcoming science events that will take place this year such as National Science Week which will take place in term 3. We will also be promoting the variety of careers that science can provide a pathway to, so please keep an eye out!
Humanities Captain
Hello Fellow staff and students, my name is Kavin and I am a student in Year 10, and I have had the wonderful chance to become the Humanity Domain Captain. In this domain I hope to do multiple things that will strengthen and spread the subject of Humanities, so that more and more students engage in Humanities and perhaps find the same connection towards the subject as I did and pursue it in the future or maybe even participate with little interest in the subject. These meetings would be a safe space to explore different interests and see what works for you, and I look forward to seeing you there.
Health & PE Captain
Hi everyone! My name is Sanam Haider, I’m a year 12 student at Kambrya College, and I’ll be your Health and PE Domain Captain for 2024. From being an advanced swimmer to a full-time martial artist, I’ve found that promoting fitness is my calling, which is why I’m ecstatic to be honored with such a role! Growing up, I was enveloped in a culture rich with sports, boxing being the most significant one; many of my family members were professional boxers in Afghanistan! No doubt, sports are a universal language, no matter your age, background, or ability level. So, as your Health and PE domain captain for 2024, I aim to foster a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel safe, comfortable, and supported to participate in sports and fitness activities. I will organize and lead school-wide events and competitions to promote school spirit and team building exercises. I am also open to seeking feedback from staff and students on what they would love to see and will ensure it meets the needs and interests of the school community. I look forward to promoting Health and PE in Kambrya College!
Visual Arts Captain
Hi! My name’s Elouise, I’m in year 10 this year and also the Visual Arts Domain Captain. I really enjoy drawing and painting. I chose to apply for this domain captaincy position because I feel very passionate about art and creativity and I hope to be able to spread some of the creativity around school. I want to help the school involve more art during events and just overall around the school. I hope to give this role the justice it deserves.
City of Casey Casey Student Leaders Reception 2024
Last term, the School Captains, Lachlan Shephard, Isabel Richmond, Angelina Maricic and I, as well as Events & Fundraising Captain Aish Anand and Student School Council Representative Neyli Withanage, attended the City of Casey’s 2024 Student Leaders reception at Bunjil Place.
The event allowed us to network with a range of student leaders, both primary and secondary, from all across the City of Casey, helping us to build our communication skills and find some useful tips from other schools. The event was opened by the Chair Administrator of the City of Casey Panel of Administrators, Ms Noelene Duff. Over the course of the day, we heard from several speakers, including presentations from Gleneagles Secondary College and Cranbourne East Primary School, on how to build our leadership abilities. We were even lucky enough to have our own Aish Anand represent Kambrya in the Youth Pannel section of the day.
Overall, it was a very insightful experience that has improved our capacity to serve Kambrya, and we can’t wait to share our findings and implementing some newfound ideas!
Jesse Barnett Year 11
To open the youth leaders' reception JSTEP dance company took the stage for an awesome hip-hop performance. People of all ages, from prep to young adults, showed off their amazing talent with multiple skill levels showcased. One girl even did a flip! Their sensational dance moves and upbeat music got us super hyped up for the day ahead of us. Their performance not only entertained and excited us but also depicted some of the awesome local talent In our community which we are grateful to have witnessed and supported.
Isabel Richmond Year 12
Whilst attending the 2024 Casey Student Leaders Reception, myself, alongside other Kambrya student leaders, were given a presentation by Stand Out Basketball founder, Sukart Alex. Throughout his speech, he elaborated on how his passion for basketball and his experiences in the face of adversity provided him with the determination to create his own basketball academy to assist in the development of young players from all across Melbourne, regardless of skill level or background. Through this, Alex touched on a step-by-step process he utilised both as a basketball player, and founder of the academy himself. This process is able to reflect the goals and aspirations that many may have in various facets of their lives, encapsulating the importance of having a strong desire and work-ethic to meet the goals an individual may hold and is something definitely worthwhile incorporating in my own life. It was an honour to be given the opportunity to meet Sukart and be exposed to his impactful stories of resilience and lessons that will be held for a lifetime, alongside a group of likeminded individuals.
Lachlan Shepherd Year 12
In addition to Sukart Alex, we got to listen to author, Luke Kennedy, talk to us about how our self-concept can become a determining factor of the trajectory our future may take. Kennedy spoke about the unconventional life he lived and how he was able to change his life around despite consecutive obstacles knocking him down; he told us that he was not special in this sense, and that all of us can inherently do the same as our potential and our capabilities are endless- we are all blank slates. He warned us that clinging on to labels further constricts us, that by doing so we cage ourselves, making it harder for us to spread our wings. Kennedy also went on to describe how important the company you keep is, and how inevitably you will also begin to morph into the kind of people they are. He told us not to be scared of moving away from people who do not have values that align with our own, and that we should dig deep to find out more about ourselves and use this as our guiding light. His talk was followed by a question and answer where some other young leaders' asked a few thought-provoking questions; to which Kennedy's responses were equally as inspirational. For the wider community who are also interested in the messages Kennedy wants to express to the world, he has written a book called 'Redemption Road'. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able attend this event and to have been present to listen to Kennedy, it has helped me begin to change the way I look at the world and at my own abilities.
Neyli Withanage Year 12
T
o close the day, a youth panel was held, including young leaders from the community. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the panel and share my experience.
Being a part of the youth panel for the student leaders reception was both challenging, as well as exciting! I was offered the chance to put my leadership skills to test by answering questions from student leaders across Casey. Not only did I learn from the other talented panellists about their experiences, but also got the chance to share my own and answer some burning questions about leadership. Giving advice to aspiring leaders and involved students was an enjoyable experience; their questions challenged me to find innovative solutions to common problems faced in leadership, as well as how to build skills that are essential to succeed as a leader. Sharing my experiences drawn from being a peer supporter, events captain as well as former class and curriculum captain was a real feel-good.
