Melbourne Holocaust Museum Excursion

Year 12 Media and Visual Communication

On the 30th of April, the Year 12 Media and Visual Communication classes went to celebrate and draw inspiration from this year’s Top Design exhibition. This exhibition provided us with the opportunity to experience the creative process behind these pieces as these students’ folios were up for display; the folios contain their very first brainstorm to the final edits in their storyboards

and scripts. This gave us insight into the amount of research, planning, experimenting, and revising it truly took to produce art of this calibre. The films themselves were exceptional and some of them truly heartfelt, but we could see how the almost 87 pages in some of these students’ folios provided a solid and secure foundation. As we are still developing our folios this excursion gave us insight into how much the effort we put in now and the creative ways in which we can do so will help us later down the line. After

eating lunch at Melbourne Central where some of the musical geniuses within the station- including one of our very own- showed off their piano skills, we headed to the ACMI. There we got to experience the development of the moving picture and how cinema and photography and the way it is consumed came to be – at the screen worlds exhibition. Notably, we got to see some of the dresses from ‘The Dressmaker’. This excursion helped us understand the factors that help an artist produce a masterpiece, so that we can produce our SATs that we will undoubtedly be very proud of.

VPC – Trip to the Movies Excursion

The Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) students planned a trip to the movies (Kung Fu Panda 4) as part of their assessment. The students developed their understanding of time, reading maps, investigating different routes as well as exploring various travel options.

Here is what the students had to say:

My experience at the movies was very enjoyable for me. I had so much fun playing air hockey with everyone and beating all of them before we went into the cinema. My favorite part of the movie was when Po was trying to find inner peace but all he could think about is food!

On Tuesday morning, I went to the movies, to see Kung Fu Panda 4. It was my first time going to the movies in Australia. I was feeling happy and excited. I got a large popcorn and drink and really liked the movie especially the ending when The Chameleon got defeated by Po.

Unit 1 Modern History Melbourne Holocaust Museum Excursion

On Thursday 18th April, our Unit 1 Modern History students attended the Melbourne Holocaust Museum as part of their Unit 1 Area of Study 2 learnings. Students studied the rise of the Nazi Party and the Holocaust before attending the museum where they were able to analyse original artifacts, tour the newly renovated museum, and speak with a survivor of the Holocaust.

Students examined propaganda and official notices from the 1930s-1940s in Germany, providing them insight into real life events and supporting them in understanding source analysis for upcoming assessments. Students then toured the museum with volunteers who all had personal connections to the Holocaust. After this, students had the opportunity to speak to a survivor who experienced the events of the Holocaust firsthand as he and his family fled the Nazi Party in the 1940s.

All students in attendance demonstrated compassion and respect throughout the day when speaking to volunteers. Students asked thought-provoking questions that left all volunteers commending their behaviour which in turn allowed them further time to explore the museum at the students’ requests.

The class were provided with the opportunity to reflect on the excursion afterwards where students acknowledged the privilege they experienced on the day.

The College is very proud of our students who attended with regards to both their passion for learning and understanding history, along with their general respect and engagement on the day.
