A Word from the Principal

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for your love and for being with me every day.
Help me to be your hands and feet in all that I do.
Teach me to show kindness to others, just as you did.
Give me the courage to help those in need,
And the heart to love everyone around me.
Guide my words to be gentle,
And my actions to be full of care.
Help me to see the good in others,
And to make the world a better place by sharing your love.
May I always follow your example,
Living with kindness, compassion, and joy,
So that others may see you through me.
Amen.
At Mount Carmel College, we are committed to fostering a Christ-centred environment where faith comes alive in our everyday actions. Recently, our Primary students participated in the Making Jesus Real (MJR) program with Marty Ogle, which has deepened this commitment. The MJR program encourages students to recognise God's presence in their daily lives through "God Moments"—those small, often unnoticed experiences where we feel God's love, kindness, or the beauty of His creation. Whether it’s helping a friend, appreciating a beautiful sunset, or receiving a kind word, these God Moments help students see the world through the lens of faith.
A key part of the MJR program is encouraging students to be of benefit to others. As followers of Christ, we are called to serve, and this program helps students realise that every act of kindness, no matter how small, makes a difference. From offering a smile to including others in play, our students are learning the true meaning of being the hands and feet of Jesus in their everyday lives. Leadership qualities such as compassion, patience, and humility are being developed as they practise what it means to be true disciples in both the classroom and the playground.
The MJR program also provides important opportunities for prayer and reflection. Each day, students take time to pause, reflect, and pray, fostering a deeper connection with God. These moments of stillness not only help them build a personal relationship with Jesus but also strengthen their ability to find peace and gratitude in their daily lives. Through prayer, students are encouraged to seek God's guidance in being better leaders, friends, and members of the community.
I encourage you to extend these lessons at home by engaging in family discussions about God Moments or moments of gratitude each day. This practice can help everyone in the family become more aware of God’s work in their lives and grow together in faith. Searching for these moments as a family allows us to see that Jesus is always present, guiding and supporting us through life’s challenges and joys.
Through the Making Jesus Real program, we are not only nurturing our students’ faith but also building a community rooted in love, service, and gratitude—where Jesus is truly present in all we do.
A ‘Louisa’ update
As you may have witnessed, our project is making rapid progress with footings poured, plumbing commenced and Fairbrother hard at work to meet our hopeful opening date of Term 2. Thank you to families who have navigated the changed car park conditions as we make the space safe for pedestrians and motorists. Due to some significant structural damage the plans for the entrance have altered slightly, resulting in a new entrance near the car park with appropriate ramps, walkways, an outdoor gathering space and gardens now a feature.

Thank you to the many families who have contributed to the Google Form and indicated an interest in being a part of our community group. There is still time to do so, please click on the link below.
VALE Sr Moira O'Sullivan
It is with sadness that we farewell Sr Moira O'Sullivan who taught Year 11 and 12 English, French and History at Mount Carmel College from 1962 to 1968. Sr Moira was a dynamic teacher and greatly loved by her students.
Sr Moira’s last visit to Hobart was when the statues by Rohan Gillespie for Macquarie Wharf and the Female Factory were “unboxed”. Her ex- students from those years in 1960’s gave her a great welcome.
Sr Moira passed away peacefully at St Vincent's Care Services, Edgecliff on Monday evening. Her funeral will be held at St Joseph’s Church and she will be buried in the Sisters of Charity section at Rookwood Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
