A Spotlight on Learning in the SLC on Springvale Campus
We have had a fantastic start to Term 4! Students in the Senior Learning Centre have hit the ground running, with students enthusiastically diving into their learning and making impressive growth in all areas. Each student has been working to strengthen both their academic and interpersonal abilities, and it’s truly inspiring to watch.
In Mathematics, the SLC students are building their confidence and fluency in multiplication. In addition to practising the algorithm, they are also determined to master not only their multiplication facts, but also related division facts! The SLC teachers are confident that with their excellent effort and resilience, the students will smash their learning goals!
In Reading, the SLC students have begun an exciting new teaching and learning cycle where they are exploring how to identify different text types, their purpose and intended audience. By examining a variety of text types such as informative texts, persuasive and imaginative pieces, the SLC students are learning to recognize the deliberate choices authors make to innovate and achieve their purpose.
In Writing, the Year 5 students are engaging in real-life learning as they prepare their leadership applications. They have been exploring what makes a great leader, celebrating their own achievements, and articulating these strengths in their speeches. They are also developing their public speaking skills, sharing their thoughts with enthusiasm and pride. The SLC teachers are thrilled with the impressive talent on display, and we can’t wait to hear the inspiring speeches that showcase both the students’ excellence and their confidence.
Meanwhile, Year 6 students are deep in preparations for graduation. This has been a time of mixed emotions - happiness, anticipation, and some sadness - as they reflect on their primary school journey. They are writing about memorable moments, friendships, and the special people who have made a difference along the way. In this final chapter, the students are working collaboratively with their teachers to create a heartfelt and respectful farewell that reflects all they have learned and achieved together.
In Projects, the SLC students are learning about the economy. As part of the "Market Place" experience, students take on real-life roles with jobs and incomes, learning to manage expenses like taxes and rent. To reinforce real-world financial skills, they can also earn extra money by meeting agreed-upon expectations. They have been learning about entrepreneurs and how they create products to meet customer needs and demands. They have been given the exciting opportunity to become entrepreneurs themselves by designing game boards for the JLC students, who will vote on the best design with the winner receiving a cash prize.
Finally, we would like to congratulate Haris, Jamil, Shohib, Dilawar and Noor Wahed for their outstanding performance at the SSV Regional Athletics. The boys represented Springvale Rise Primary School in the 4x100 metre relay event, finishing in 4th place. They demonstrated amazing collaboration and sportsmanship during training and in the competition, and we are so proud of their amazing achievement!
What an exciting time to be in the SLC!
