A reminder to families that next Monday is a School Closure Day. St John’s are currently involved in the Flourishing Learners Initiative being offered by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS). Through this program our teachers have investigated high impact teaching strategies associated with Reading, while also exploring evidence based classroom management routines. Staff have been working with both external and internal coaches to ensure they are able to successfully implement these strategies. On Monday our teachers will be participating in their third Flourishing Learners professional development session, where they will investigate high impact teaching strategies associated with Writing.
At St John’s our students participate in a digital safety program at the beginning of each term. These programs have been designed by the team at Inform and Empower. Below is an outline of the different focus areas throughout the school:
Prep - Year 2
The junior classes are looking at online Interactions and strategies to seek help. The students will explore how they can navigate uncomfortable interactions and look for early warning safety signs.
Year 3 & 4
Students in the middle school are looking at ways they can be safe and secure when online. They will explore using safety computer settings and navigating unsafe interactions, including what red flags to look for.
Year 5 & 6
The senior students are looking at ways to think critically when online. They will explore navigating unsafe interactions, and various red flags to look for when online. They discuss the effects of online influencers and the power of AI generated images and messages etc.

Weather permitting parents are invited to join us in the undercover area for the Parade of Nations at 9:15am. If the weather is inclement the students will do the parade from the hall and we will live stream the event for parents.
Disco
On Thursday 14th November we will hold various student discos throughout the day. Students in Prep - Year 3 will attend a disco during class time and our Year 4 - 6 students are invited to attend an evening Disco in the school hall. The Year 4, 5 & 6 Disco will be 6:30-8:00pm, in the Hall. A reminder that students must be promptly picked up from this evening event and we are unable to allow students to walk home by themselves.
