Curriculum Matters
Foundation
Foundation has been having lots of fun over the last two weeks.
We loved Kids Rule the School Day where we had extra time playing outside.
We have also been doing some small experiments.
Looking at how washing hands is good for us by touching two pieces of bread and looking at all the bacteria that we have grown.
We have also put an egg into vinegar and are waiting to discover what happens!
Level 1
On Thursday 24th of October, our Level 1 students enjoyed a fantastic Outdoor Education Night filled with fun, learning, and excitement!
Students gathered on the oval, where this event was designed to immerse our young learners in the great outdoors while promoting teamwork and physical activity.
The evening kicked off with a warm welcome, and then students had a quick play on the Senior Playground, before everyone gathered for a delicious dinner courtesy of Subway. The mouthwatering subs, drinks and cookies were a hit, fuelling the students for the variety of activities organized by Kaboom Sports. Our young adventurers rotated through several engaging stations, each offering a unique challenge that encouraged skill-building and cooperation.
From throwing, catching, kicking to cooperative games, the students embraced the spirit of teamwork and enthusiasm. Kaboom Sports provided expert guidance and engagement, ensuring that everyone participated and had a great time.
It was heartwarming to see friendships blossoming and confidence growing as the students tackled each activity with laughter and determination.
Outdoor Education Night was not just about fun; it was also an opportunity for students to learn about the importance of staying active, working together, as well as focusing on independence leading up to camp in a couple of years.
Level 2
Our Level 2 students recently went on an adventure into the rainforest!
They learned all about how animals survive in this amazing habitat. Each student invented their own rainforest creature and thought about what made it perfect for life in the jungle. Some creatures had bright colours to blend in with flowers, big claws for climbing trees, or long tails to swing from branches.
The students got creative and explained why their creatures belonged in the rainforest. We loved seeing their new animal creations!
Level 3
Level 3 had a fantastic week celebrating Halloween through creative writing activities, where students let their imaginations run wild with spooky stories!
Inspired by our “Kids Rule the Day” picnic, students crafted imaginative stories about their own ideal Yes Day adventures.
Students also enjoyed exploring chance experiments with our “Wheel of Chance,” which brought plenty of laughter and excitement to the classroom.
The Alive Pumpkin
Sally was a five year old girl who asked her Mum to go Trick-or-Treating.
”Sure what could possibly go wrong?! Sally Got extra candy because she was using her manners to everyone!! She zoomed through every house as fast as a cheetah. As she counted on how many lollies there were, she got 50!!
If I haven't mentioned, Sally always wears a pink bow on the side of her head. As she zoomed through all the houses, her pink bow dropped in-front of a pumpkin. The pumpkin’s curved eyes and the big, smiley mouth started to glow, then it started growing long, skinny arms and legs. Then it started following Sally’s candy tracks.
Sally was skipping along the houses, and in the corner of her eye was an old, rusty, creepy, house. She looked to her left then to her right, and thought what could possibly go wrong? So she went in…….
When she went into the living room she heard a faint voice that said ‘Pink bow, standing at the door’. Then she heard a knocking sound on the door, she creaked open the door slowly, and there stood the PUMPKIN HUMAN!!
Sally screamed as loud as a volcano exploding! She was terrified!
Sally screamed so loud the pumpkin human even started to turn into a pale orange.

The God Cube
One eerie October 31st, a man named John was trick or treating when he saw a statue of a black cat. He examined it and exclaimed, “Hey! Look at this cool statue I found!” “I don’t see anything,” replied a bewildered stranger.
It started twitching and tiny raindrops started falling. “Pitter Patter Pitter Patter.”
The statue had started twitching as if it had come alive. Suddenly, the rain had frozen into huge golf-ball sized hailstones. An orange orb appeared right when a tree fell down.
A grey cube encased the ball of fire and a heavy tornado descended. Debris was flying everywhere and foundations of houses collapsed!
The supercell that had formed the huge funnel had struck the cube and it started spewing out huge amounts of… Snow?! The items orbiting the tornado had each broken into little pieces from the high air pressure. John dashed as he dodged all the various proportions fall from the sky and turned the floating cube upside down, creating an iceorite* (Made up word alert! A meteorite made from purely ice.) , compounded with hydrogen and nitrogen. It was launched towards the core of the supercell at almost the speed of light!
A sudden burst of blue light erupted from the night sky, igniting the icy ball on fire. It completely decimated the storm, along with fixing the belongings and returning them to their rightful owners.
A few years later…
Scientists discovered a huge newborn star and it was about to supernova. The chance of this event was one in a quintillion! But they didn’t know that the doom of humanity was coming…

Level 4
Our Level 4s have been off this week making some amazing memories at Phillip Island.
Here are a few snap shots of their adventures with more to come in the next newsletter.
Level 5
Last week, the Level 5’s were lucky enough to participate in this year’s “Kids Rule The Day’. It was a great day that we got to spend enjoying our time with friends.
We had a variety of activities to move between. We had the option to watch a movie, play board games with friends, arts and craft or play gaga ball. In the middle block, we headed down to Jells Park for a play with the whole school.
It was lots of fun for everyone!
Level 6
Grade 6 Maths Fun with Skittles!
Last week, our Grade 6 students had an exciting (and delicious!) maths lesson using Skittles! This colourful activity helped students understand key statistical concepts: mean, mode, median, and range—all while working with everyone’s favourite lolly.
Each student received a small amount of Skittles and got straight to work.
First, they sorted their Skittles by colour, creating neat little piles of reds, greens, yellows, purples, and oranges. Then, they counted each colour and used these numbers to calculate the mean (average), mode (most frequent colour), median (middle number when sorted), and range (difference between the highest and lowest values). They then made a partnership and put their skittle totals together and calculated their new mean, mode, median and range.
The partners then met up with another partner group and did the calculating again for a larger data set.
This hands-on lesson allowed students to see how maths applies to everyday situations and kept them engaged from start to finish. And, as a sweet reward, students got to enjoy their Skittles after completing the activity!
It was a fantastic way to blend learning with a little treat, making statistics fun and memorable for our Grade 6s!
