We would like to remind you that ALL students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September, when UV levels are typically higher. Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.
🌳UPCOMING EVENTS
Wow! There are a lot of things on the upcoming calendar for our Grade One and Two students. Please make sure you finalise payments and permissions on Sentral.
The Grade One and Two teachers are busily trying to finalise the details for our two camp experiences that take place this term.
The Grade One 'Onderful Day' permission is now on Sentral. You have been sent an additional form in regards to dietary requirements and pick up arrangements and require it to be returned to school ASAP .
The Grade Day Day Camp at Mt Evelyn is available on Sentral to make payment and give permission. Look out for additional notices that need to be filled in and returned to go on camp.
CURRICULUM
📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics
To support our work using the UFLI program students use their iPad's twice a week to manipulate letters and sounds on a blending board. We would appreciate iPads coming to school fully charged each day.
Students will complete one sound this week (2 lessons and an assessment).
Grade One Students will continue to learn about r controlled vowels.
What can you do at home?
-Assist your child to read their 'take home' book each night
-Help your child learn to read and spell their Heart Words

Wednesday & Thursday learning:
Grade Two Students will begin looking at the -ly suffix.
Students will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will learn the following heart word: honest, honor

Wednesday & Thursday learning:
📝 Literature: reading responses and writing
The students will continue to explore the NASA Science Space Place .
Students will be using this text to learn facts about the moon, build vocabulary, continue to build their understanding of and how to navigate a webpage to successfully gain information.
Students will begin to write an information text on the moon, using headings to support their organisation.
What can you do at home?
-Encourage retelling of your child's take home book. What were the main events? Can you place the events in order? What kind of text is this? Why has the author written this?
-You may like to look at this website and explore the information with your child.
🔢 Maths
Students will continue to explore Time, with the Grade One students looking at the features of analogue clocks and reading simple times. The Grade Two students will also be reading times on digital and analogue clocks focusing on half past, quarter past and quarter to times.
What can you do at home?
-Discuss events you are doing at home.
-Find different clocks in your house and discuss how you use them read the time.
-Count by 5's
🌏 CBL - Curiosity
Our Term Four Big Idea is Curiosity. Students have begun to look at space and the objects that are naturally found in space and objects that have been placed there by humans. Students will begin to make observations of the moon, and we will be encouraging students to make these observations at school and home. Please look out for a recording sheet and letter explaining this during the week!
