🍎 Prep 2025 Transition - this Wednesday

On Wednesday 6th November we have our third Prep 2025 Transition. Once again, students will head straight to the BER with their bag, to be met by the Grade 6 teachers. They will spend time with their buddies and return back to their own classrooms after recess.

**Please make sure an iPad is packed for this day!

👕 Uniform

We are finding new jumpers in our classrooms without names, or second hand jumpers with the name of the previous owner.

We ask that you please check that all items that your child wears to school are named, as this assists with your clothing being returned to you!

-We are building up a collection of unnamed items. We will put this clothing in the new playspace at the end of each day next week so that it can hopefully find its way to its owners, before sending it to the lost property outside the office.

👒 Hats

Our school adheres to the SunSmart policy set by the Victorian Government. All students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September when UV levels are typically higher.

Please ensure your child has a hat at school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays. If your child's hat has gone missing, replacing it with a cheaper navy, broad brimmed hat (eg. from Kmart) is a good option, as hats usually find their way back - if they are clearly named!

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and sun-smart.

CURRICULUM

📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics

Due to the shorter week, students will complete some revision of previously taught UFLI concepts including 'ph' says f, ck and nk.

We will revise the heart words: many, any, been, into, friend, because, woman, women

What can you do at home?

-Assist your child to read their 'take home' book each night

-Help your child learn to read and spell their Heart Words

-Explore the Reading Eggs library and Fast Phonics to read decodable texts

-Continue to revise sounds on the sound/letter ring

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing

The mentor text is The Magic Bubbles. Students will use this text to form the basis of their literary responses, such as writing their own bubble poem using verbs (following the format of the story) and creating their own short narrative about where their magic bubble travels to.

Students will continue to practise handwriting formations on dotted thirds writing paper.

What can you do at home?

-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home

-Provide authentic opportunities for your child to write at home eg. writing birthday cards, shopping lists and keeping score in games

🔢  Maths

Students will revisit place value and extend their thinking beyond 20. They will build numbers with tens frames to identify the tens and ones in a number. They will investigate numbers on a hundreds chart and identify patterns within it.

What can you do at home?

-Count collections that are bigger than 20

-Read numbers in your environment that are bigger than 20. Where can you see numbers in your home? Name the tens and one like this - 24 has 2 tens and 4 ones

-Play games that involve 'hundreds chart' boards like 'Snakes and Ladders'.

-Practise writing numbers at home, ensuring that numbers are not reversed!

🌏 CBL - Curiosity

To match the theme of our mentor text, students will have fun with bubbles! They will be curious scientists to find out how we make bubbles and explore the things you can do with them to make them change their shape.
