Term 4, Week 3

Wow! It is hard to believe that our Preps are in Term 4 of their first year of school. We marvel at how much they have grown and changed since first meeting them at the beginning of the year. We have begun to discuss what Grade One will be like, explaining about transition days where they will meet some of their new teachers, we are planning some visits to the 1/2 area to familiarise ourselves with the space, and we have collected their learning buddy preferences. Exciting times!

Traffic School:

We had a wonderful excursion to the Essendon Traffic School at the end of Term 3. We walked from school, had a great informative session and then caught the public bus back. The Preps were amazing with their behaviour, resilience and overall attitude. Thank you so very much to our parent volunteers who worked tirelessly to give a bike a push, pick up a fallen Prep, hold traffic signs and encourage.

Wellbeing:

We have had a focus on the Gleam of Resilience with some short sessions testing our ability to not give up and have another go. The Preps have been challenged to make a house of cards, create an origami penguin and build the tallest structure they can using marshmallows and spaghetti. Our teachers have been impressed by our ability to bounce back from little failures and the way we have been supporting our classmates.

Literacy:

We have nearly finished all of the sounds covered in the foundational year of InitiaLit. To celebrate we will be having a very casual dress up party on Friday the 8th of November. We are not asking anyone to go out and buy any dress up items, just that the students pick one sound to represent - this could be as simple as bringing a hula-hoop for /h/, a bell for /ll/ or a shell for /sh/. During the day we will celebrate our year of phonics learning.

Once a week we have had Library Time. Payton and Luke have created a calm library area for us, we have decorated our own library bags and head to the library to listen to the teacher read, read/enjoy books on our own and to buddy read.

Inquiry:

We have been exploring the past in Inquiry and shared some items that were special from our personal history. It was wonderful to listen to stories about items, understand the importance of them and show them off.

Assembly:

See below for our certificate and Maths Masters recipients. Congratulations!
