Positive Futures News
What is the EDSC Positive Futures program?
Positive Education brings together the science of positive psychology with best-practice teaching.
The school’s journey with Positive Education began in 2012 with Positive Education focuses and values implemented across each year level and over time has evolved into the whole school approach launched in 2020.
Our Positive Futures program has some very clear goals:
- We want to improve student quality of life and their engagement with others, including with their teachers
- We seek to develop students in a more holistic way, with a stronger focus on wellbeing
There are six tenets of Positive Psychology that are embedded into our model:
Positive Health – Positive Self
Developing knowledge, understanding and skills to promote health and well – being.
Positive Relationships
Nurturing positive relationships based on respect.
Accomplishment
Generating hope and optimism through the accomplishment of personal and community goals
Positive Emotion
Building and experiencing positive emotion.
Meaning
Believing in serving something greater than ourselves.
Positive Engagement
Developing critical thinkers by promoting challenge, curiosity and creativity.

Term 3 2024 Recap
Year 12
Our Year 12s participated in NAIDOC Week activities, looked at the value of Care and Compassion and completed some lessons about the 2024 Olympics. The Red Frogs organisation delivered a presentation in the PAC about life after school that had our students thinking about next when Year 12 ends. The last lesson they were treated to a number of Minute to Win It games run by our Year 7 classes.
Year 11
Year 11s had a real mix of sessions this term with sessions exploring our school values, course counselling and STEAM Week. Their main focus for the latter part of the term was creating projects to acknowledge R U OK? Day. This resulted in some exciting activities taking place within the class as well as at lunchtime for other year levels.
Year 10
Our Year 10 peer support leaders continued to spend a few sessions with their Year 7 group working through various activities. They also undertook a number a sessions to prepare them for Work Experience which we hope will prove valuable when they attend in the last week of the term.
Year 9
In amongst the sessions on NAIDOC Week, Olympics and Care and Compassion, our Year 9s have been building their capacity as leaders. This has been through sessions focused on Peer Mentor Training that will inspire them to take up the challenge of being Peer Mentors to our Year 7s in 2025.
Year 8
The students have completed a range of sessions about the core value of Care and Compassion centred around Respectful Relationships, R U OK? Day and NAIDOC Week. They also went on Camp and in the last week were able to reflect on that experience.
Year 7
Year 7 students participated in several activities centred around the value of Care and Compassion and Respectful Relationships. The Olympics activities proved to be a bit of a favourite. They also spent a few lessons preparing some great Minute to Win It games for the Year 12 students. They all did a great job.
