SCC Arts Soirée 2024

Last Tuesday, our Secondary Arts students joined forces to present our 2024 Arts Soirée to the SCC community. This was a wonderful night where our students presented their Visual Art, Media, Music and Drama work.

It was great to see students from Year 7 all the way through to Year 11 present the fruits of their labour and in usual SCC style, show support and encouragement towards each other.

Performances on the night ranged from comic and clowning performances, dramatic and comic duologues and monologues, classical and contemporary piano pieces, a twelve-bar blues performance, some outstanding solo vocal performances, a range of excellent Media pieces and two impressive songs performed by our newly formed “SCC Vocal Ensemble”. We were also treated with a fantastic exhibition of our Visual Arts students’ work which was displayed for the audience to view throughout the night.

It was a delight to see our students step out of their comfort zones, take some healthy risks and shine at our Arts Soirée. They certainly made their teachers exceptionally proud!

Year 9/10 Rock Climbing Camp

'In God’s timing' was the theme of our devotion on the Year 9/10 Rock Climbing camp

last week. We were blessed with perfect weather and a steady stream of whales breaching, fluke slapping, and spraying their way down the coast as we climbed, abseiled, and swam in the beautiful east coast environment.

As we negotiated a section of coast students were forced to stop and wait on the timing of the waves to avoid getting wet feet. Although they were capable of doing the crossing in their own timing the consequences were not ideal, resulting in wet soggy shoes and clothes if they got it wrong. Instead, we had to sit and wait and watch the timing of the waves as creation dictated the pace at which we could move.

This served as a good analogy for life, because although there are times we could do it in our own strength, force something to happen, or even jump into relationships or situations we want and that could potential be good for us, sometimes it is better to wait, and watch and pray, and ask God not only what, but when.

It was great to see the students challenge themselves and encourage each other over the three days, and even get up both mornings to see the sun rise out of the water. We were truly blessed.
