Canberra and Sydney Trip

Year 6 students have been having an wonderful time in Sydney on their way to Canberra. They have enjoyed a visit to the amazing Taronga Zoo and a lovely boat ride around Circular Quay and Darling Harbour. Below are some of the photos of Sydney:

Our Year 6 students will be participating in an education tour of the national capital and Sydney while away. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance for all young Australians to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributes funding to our school in the amount of $300 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program (PACER) towards the cost of this trip. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and has already been deducted from the costs parents pay towards this interstate trip.

The College also contributes a significant amount to subsidise the trip for students.

Year 2 Gymnastics

Written collaboratively by the Year 2 students

During Term 4, the Year 2 students have been going to gymnastics. We have travelled to the Kingborough Sports Centre by bus for a one hour session each week.

When we get to the Centre, we take off our shoes and socks, and wait for instructions from our coach. Our coaches have been Alex, Milly and Lily. They have been amazing at showing us lots of activities to get our bodies moving.

We have done many activities including:

  • Bouncing on trampolines in different ways, such as in our rocket or star shapes
  • Playing games such as crab and spider tiggy, and copycat
  • Balancing on the beams, even a really high one while walking through hoops!
  • Swinging on bars and rings
  • Rolling down wedges

For most people in our class, the best thing we have done so far has been jumping into the foam pit. It was a little scary but also lots of fun.

We have enjoyed gymnastics because it has helped us to be flexible, move our bodies, exercise energetically, and be risk-takers. Some of the activities have been very challenging and we have had to work hard and be very focused.

We are thankful for the chance to go to gymnastics, which has been so exciting. We have written some haiku poetry about our experiences there.
