Year 10, 11 & 12

Assistant Principal's Report
I would like to take a moment to highlight the importance of your child’s consistent and positive engagement with school. Secondary school is a crucial stage in a young person’s academic, social, and emotional development and strong daily habits form the foundation for future success whether it be in employment or further training.
Attendance matters
Regular school attendance is crucial for many reasons as everyday counts; missing even one day can impact a student’s learning progress and sense of connection with their peers and teachers. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve academic success, develop strong friendships and build the resilience needed for future challenges. If your child is unwell, of course they should rest and recover, but we ask that all other absences are kept to a minimum and that you communicate with the school if there are concerns or barriers to attendance; we are here to help.
Below are some easy to follow tips to improve attendance at school:
✔ Commit to sending your children to school every day.
✔ Make sure children arrive at school and class on time (you can check this on Compass).
✔ Inform the school when they are away, sending medical certificates and other evidence of genuine absence.
✔ Students must catch up on missed class work.
Pride in presentation – the role of school uniform
Wearing the school uniform correctly and with pride is another important part of being ready to learn. Our uniform represents respect, cooperation and excellence, our school values. It helps create a focused learning environment, along with a sense of belonging and reduces distractions caused by fashion competition. We ask that students attend school each day in full, correct uniform and we thank families for supporting this expectation. If you need assistance with uniform items or have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us, we can help you and your family.
Active Participation
Beyond the classroom, we encourage every student to take full advantage of the opportunities offered at school, whether it be through co-curricular activities, leadership roles, sports, technology or the arts. These experiences help students build confidence, character and a strong sense of belonging within the school community.
There are always opportunities for students to get extra support with their learning at the College. Every Wednesday, after school, we offer a Homework Club for all students and we also offer free tutoring for our VCE students. This is where students can get assistance with their class work in all subject areas, please encourage your child to make the most of this opportunity.
Classroom teacher’s complete Progress Checks on Compass, every 5 weeks, for students studying a Year 11/12 subject who have uncompleted class work and are at risk of not obtaining a satisfactory pass for a particular subject. Please discuss these checks with your child and ensure that the necessary work is completed and submitted to the appropriate teacher to ensure a successful outcome.
Step into your Future Week
We have just completed a dedicated week of career exploration and future pathways with our students, which was designed to support them in making informed decisions about their subject selections and programs for next year. Throughout the week, students had valuable opportunities to engage with industry professionals and subject teachers, gaining insights and guidance to help shape their educational and career journeys.
Multicultural week
We have also celebrated Multicultural week, where we acknowledged the rich diversity of our school community with an assembly and a range of activities during break times, including fashion parades and traditional dance. I commend our students on their efforts.
The events highlighted the importance of mutual respect, understanding and inclusion, regardless of cultural, religious, racial, or linguistic background.
Let us continue to embrace the opportunity to learn from each other, celebrate our differences and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes our school so special.
Year 12 final stretch
As our Year 12 students enter the final stretch of their schooling, now is the time to give their absolute best. Pressure often builds when tasks pile up, so staying organised and on top of school work is key to managing stress and anxiety.
Students, this is your moment to stay focused and committed. Establish a clear routine, stay motivated, be resilient and take responsibility for your progress. Reflect on your school reports and the feedback from your teachers and use these insights to refine your goals and actions moving forward.
In partnership with you, we aim to provide the best possible environment for your child to thrive. We truly value your support in reinforcing the importance of school and in encouraging your child to attend every day, arrive on time, wear the uniform proudly and engage positively with their learning. If there is anything that we can do to support you with your child’s learning, then please do not hesitate to contact their Tutor Teacher for further assistance.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10
Term 3 is an important term for our year 10 students who have already had a day of experiencing VCE subjects in our “tasters” program. During week 2, we saw many students and parents attend their course counselling interviews with tutor teachers and our careers staff. It was fantastic to see so many engaging in the process and having thoughtful decisions about their future careers and the pathway needed to get there.
Congratulations to all the successful Vocational Major (VM) candidates. We had such a strong field of candidates that we will be running two VM classes next year.
Just around the corner we have work experience for all of our year 10 students, from the 18th-22nd August. Again, it has been really pleasing to see the maturity and engagement of the students through the process. Staff are looking forward to visiting students on their work placement and hearing all about it on their return. There is a huge variety of workplaces that have been chosen and we are confident that this will be a huge benefit to our students.
Whilst on work experience, students will complete a work placement journal which will be finished on their return to school. The journal will then form part of the year 10 pastoral assessment.
Students who have not found a placement for the week will be in school completing a virtual work experience. They will have the chance to experience two industries and will receive a certificate at the end of the week when they complete all activities.
We also want to celebrate all the amazing students who have participated in multi-cultural week. It was a superb week of dancing, face-painting and the sharing of stories and cultures.
One year 10 group even organised a multi-cultural feast with the sharing of foods which sounded delicious.

Week 3 was filled with colour, music, and celebration as our school embraced Multicultural Week. Students stepped out of their uniforms and into vibrant cultural attire for a Fashion Show, proudly representing their heritage. Throughout the week, our community enjoyed lively and heartfelt dance performances from a variety of cultures. It was a wonderful reminder of the richness within our school and the joy that comes from sharing and learning about each other’s traditions. It was especially fantastic to see our Year 11 students getting involved!
Earlier this year, students began their Elevate journey with the Student Elevation Seminar, where they explored essential strategies for maintaining focus and motivation. Building on those foundations, they recently completed their second workshop, Memory Mnemonics. This session encouraged them to move beyond simple rote learning, focusing instead on the role attention plays in memory, strategies for managing distractions, and semantic learning techniques for deeper and longer-lasting understanding.
As we look ahead to the next school year, the subject selection and web preferences portal closed on 1 August 2025. Students wishing to make changes are encouraged to speak first with Ms. Pina Siragusano, our Pathways Leader. For any questions or difficulties with submitting preferences, please reach out to your Tutor Teacher or Year Level Leader.
We would also like to remind everyone of a few everyday expectations that help keep our school running smoothly. Mobile phones brought to school should be switched off and stored securely in lockers during learning hours, with urgent calls to students made through the administration office. Wearing our full school uniform is an important way we show pride in our school community, please ensure students leave home each day in the complete uniform. If there are any difficulties in obtaining uniform items, our Tutor Teachers are ready to assist. Every student has a locker and lock for their belongings, and we ask that bags remain there throughout the day to keep classrooms safe and uncluttered.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s Tutor Teacher or me directly.

Eligibility for Victorian Certificate of Education
To be awarded the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), students must successfully complete 16 units, which must include three units from the English group, with at least one Unit 3 and 4 sequence, and three additional Unit 3 and 4 sequences in any other subjects. In practical terms, Year 12 students are expected to pass a minimum of four subjects, including English (equivalent to 8 units), unless they have already completed a Unit 3 & 4 subject in Year 11 through acceleration. Failing a subject may negatively impact a student’s result and could affect their eligibility for certain university or tertiary courses.
Students who have received a Not Satisfactory (N) result in Unit 3 for one or more of their five subjects in Semester 1 are provided additional time until the end of week 6 in Term 3, August 29, 2025. This will enable them the opportunity to complete the outstanding work for Unit 3 and submit it to their teacher to receive an S grade in Unit 3 for the failed subjects. Families and carers are encouraged to contact the relevant subject teachers to discuss any incomplete work and to support their child in achieving an S (Satisfactory) result in the relevant subject(s). Your partnership in this process is vital to your child’s continued progress and success.
On behalf of the Year 12 team, I extend our appreciation to all families for their ongoing support.
