Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report
The Middle Years have been quite busy over the last four weeks with lots of activities taking place. Your child has been working on their Career Action Plan and by now should have selected their subjects for 2026. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this happen, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Year 9s have also been doing Morrisby testing and when they get the results this will give some insight on future career aspirations.
Last week saw the colorful explosion of Multi-cultural week and we were given the gift of daily student performances and a family evening which was very well attended. It is the time of year I personally feel so grateful to be part of the Wyndham Central community and it is truly heart-warming watching all the students supporting each other. I’m sure there will be much more content on this event in this newsletter.
We are in the process of reviewing the Student Dress Code (uniform) and I am looking for a parent volunteer to be on a small working party. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact me over email megan.taylor@education.vic.gov.au
You will soon receive an email with a link to complete the annual Parent Survey. It is invaluable feedback for us, and we want to be able to take on-board your opinions. We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to complete this survey. If you have any questions, please contact the school through the front office and they will ensure you talk to the appropriate staff member.
We realise is that time of the year when we are all beset with cold / flu / covid and more. Children that are sick should be kept home, but children that are healthy should be a school on time and ready to learn every day. Over 50% of our student population are here 90% and more of the time. This is to be celebrated. If your child is reluctant to come to school please contact their tutor teacher as a starting point to put in supports to improve attendance.
Hope you all are enjoying the longer days as we head towards Spring.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8
We are pleased to share that our Year 8 students have made a positive and focused start to the term. Across all subjects, students have been setting themselves up to be Ready to Learn – ensuring they have the right resources, equipment, and mindset to engage fully with the term’s subject-specific curriculum. Teachers are already seeing students step into their learning with confidence, curiosity, as we continue into Semester 2.
In Pastoral Time, students will soon be working on their Career Action Plans. This is an exciting opportunity for them to reflect on their strengths, interests, and aspirations, and to begin thinking about the pathways that will help them reach their goals. It’s a chance to start thinking about the future while developing the skills to take ownership of their learning journey.
We were also fortunate to welcome back the creator of WCC’s Multicultural Week, Kano. This visit gave students the opportunity to explore their own identities, celebrate inclusion and diversity, and build their understanding of the many cultures that enrich our school community. Importantly, it also encouraged student voice, empowering our young people to share their perspectives and contribute to shaping future school events and our school culture more widely.
A special mention goes to our Year 8 girls who participated in the Active Girls program. This initiative focused on building resilience, self-confidence, and teamwork. As the inaugural intake for this program, their efforts and commitment will go a long way to supporting girls’ participation in sport. As a well-deserved celebration, they have an upcoming excursion to Bounce – a fun reward for their hard work and positivity.
It has been a wonderful start, and we look forward to a term full of growth, achievement, and community spirit.
A congratulations to our two Students of the Week so far this term:
Week 1: Ryan Winterbine – For consistently demonstrating school values
Week 2: Zac Sabatini – For going beyond the expected in his classwork.
We look forward to a positive and productive Term 3!

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9
What a Term it has been, and its only Week 4! We have had everything thrown at us and still we stand. Year 9 has been involved in several different things in the past three weeks. We’ve chosen our Year 10 subjects, completed the Morrisby survey, the Future You expo, and celebrated Multicultural Week!
Multicultural Week
Multicultural Week is always a highlight on the college calendar, and it was fantastic to see so many of our Year 9s participating. A massive congratulations to those who danced, dressed up, or simply came along to support the celebrations – your enthusiasm and involvement made the week truly special.
Assemblies
Assemblies continue to be a highlight of our weeks. In Week 1, we crowned our Term 2 Tutor Challenge champions. It was a tight contest between:- 9B, eager to be our first back-to-back winners - 9S, competitive and driven as always and- 9E, determined to capture a win.
In the end, victory went to 9E – congratulations!
This term, 9B has taken an early lead, but with plenty of weeks left, the competition is wide open. We also continue to celebrate our Students of the Week, nominated through Positive Posts on Compass, for achievements such as participation in Multicultural Week, representing their Tutor Class with pride, helping maintain a clean and tidy Tutor Classroom, decorating the classroom bookcase, and producing outstanding work.Week 3’s assembly also featured our second student performer for the year – Salma Ahmed – who delivered a beautiful performance of Jellyfish.
Uniform Reminder
With the colder mornings settling in, we’ve noticed the return of puffer jackets and hoodies. A friendly reminder that all students are expected to wear the correct school uniform. If you require any assistance in purchasing uniform items, please reach out – we’re here to help.
