What an amazing Book Week at CPS!

There were so many fun events during Book Week. Some of our highlights were:

F-2 Book Week in Schools Live AUS: 2025 Treasure Hunt

Foundation to Year 2 students were delighted to attend the Book Week in Schools Live AUS: 2025 Treasure Hunt performance. Written by Craig Christie, this action-packed interactive adventure brought stories to life in an exciting musical format.

The show featured a selection of the 2025 CBCA Short Listed books and took students on a lively treasure hunt exploring important themes such as sustainability and our relationship with the natural environment. Along the way, students also celebrated the joy of reading and how books help us understand each other and connect across different backgrounds.

The performance was filled with energy, music, and laughter, keeping students highly engaged throughout. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Book Week and to inspire a love of reading and storytelling in our youngest learners.

Author Visit F-2: Jack Henesleit

Our Foundation to Year 2 students were treated to a fun and inspiring writing workshop with author Jack Henseleit. Together, students helped Jack finish off some of his sillier stories.

Throughout the session, students contributed their own creative ideas and worked together to build three live collaborative stories. Jack showed them how real authors plan, structure, and develop their writing, while also answering lots of curious questions during a special Q&A time.

The workshop encouraged:

  • Imaginative thinking – coming up with wild and creative ideas
  • Collaborative storytelling – working as a group to make stories stronger
  • Planning and structuring – learning how stories can begin, build, and end
  • Creative research and development – discovering how authors grow their ideas

It was an engaging, laughter-filled hour that left our young writers inspired to create their own stories long after the workshop ended.

Author Visit 3-6: Zanni Louise

Students in Years 3–6 had the wonderful opportunity to work with author Zanni Louise in a hands-on writing workshop. Starting with character, students explored how to build a plot and bring their ideas to life, while also learning practical writing tips they can use in their own stories.

Zanni guided students through the process of developing creative ideas, expressing themselves through writing, and shaping their stories with structure and detail. She also highlighted the importance of editing, showing how polishing a piece of writing can make it even stronger.

The workshop encouraged:

  • Creativity – letting imaginations run wild
  • Self-expression – finding a personal voice in writing
  • Idea development – turning small ideas into big stories
  • Writing skills – building characters, settings, and plots
  • Editing – improving and refining stories

Author Visit 5-6: Solli Raphael

Our Year 5 and 6 students were privileged to meet Solli Raphael, a globally renowned slam poet and environmental activist. At just 12 years old, Solli became the youngest ever winner of the Australian Poetry Slam at the Sydney Opera House with his powerful piece Australian Air, which highlighted political wisdom, environmental awareness, and social consciousness. His performance went viral, receiving more than four million views in just 24 hours.

Now a young adult, Solli continues to inspire audiences across the world as a poet, keynote speaker, and passionate advocate for equality, the environment, and animal protection. He is also the author of Limelight and Spotlight, books that have encouraged young people everywhere to explore the power of poetry.

During his visit, Solli performed some of his poems and led students through writing activities designed to spark creativity and self-expression. He showed how poetry can be a powerful tool to share ideas, inspire change, and make a difference in the world.
