Year 5

Book Week Parade & Book Club

Recently, we had a book parade where you dress as a character from a book. All the outfits were fabulous, and it was quite fun to see other people show off their costumes. I found the fact that the people who made their costumes themselves were mostly the ones to win from the class, which is fair.

In Year 5, we have started Book Clubs. We all come together once a week and discuss our chosen book. There are 4 roles in each group: Discussion Director, Summariser, Connector, and Vocabulary Enricher, and we have to read an amount of pages/chapters each week so we can all be caught up.

Everyone at the book parade was so creative and had fantastic costumes such as Minions, SpongeBob SquarePants and Minecraft characters! My personal favourite was the netball players in 5C.

Book Club has been really fun because we are able to discuss our ideas as a group and you are free to give any suggestions. The book I am reading (Two Wolves) is amazing because it keeps me engaged and interested.

On Friday 22nd of August, all the students from Cheltenham Primary School participated in the Book Week Parade, where we got the chance to dress up as someone from a book. There were lots of fantastic costumes, and the best costume from each class won a prize. The Tianic and a Transformer were some of the best.

In Term 3, Year 5 students have been participating in book clubs, where you get the chance to read a new book and discuss it with a small group of around 4 people who are reading the same book as you. Everyone has a different role each week, like finding interesting vocab, or asking questions about the book.

For the Book Week Parade, everyone gets dressed up as a character from a book and comes to school, taking turns going around the oval and showing costumes to all the different classrooms form FA to 6A.

Everyone in Year 5 gets a book of their choosing and brings it in every Friday. We get into our groups and discuss about the book. Each person has their own roles and swaps after reading it out.

On Friday the 22nd of August Cheltenham Primary had the Book Week Parade. Everyone had fun and there were lots of good costumes to get a prize. Some of the really good ones were the Titanic and the Transformer but everyone joined in to make the day better.

In Term 3, Year 5 started Book Clubs. It is when around 4 or 5 people read a specific amount of pages of a book and then they have a discussion about what they have read. I am reading Detention, and I really enjoy having a discussion with my group just in case I missed something.

Author Visit: Zanni Louise

A few weeks ago, we had a visit from the author Zanni L. Arnot. She talked to us about all her books and where she gets her ideas from. Some of the books she has written include Errol!, Falling Off the Map, Honestly, I Feel the World, Archie and the Bear, and Hazel’s Treehouse. She told us that she grew up in the country and loved reading books while sitting in trees.

During the visit, we played a fun game of Two Truths and a Lie, which helped us get to know her better. Towards the end, she got everyone up to act like different types of penguins, doing things like waddling and ice-skating. Then she invited me to come up in front of everyone! She gave me instructions, and I acted out the main character in the book Errol! (hint: the main character is right there in the title!). When I finished, everyone gave me a big round of applause.

To wrap up, we asked her some questions about her books and her writing, and then we thanked her for coming.
