General Information

General Overview

Welcome to Term 3 of Grade 2. We hope you have enjoyed your holidays and that the students are feeling well-rested and ready for an exciting term ahead. Although this is a shorter term, it will be a busy one with lots of activities and learning experiences planned.

As a general reminder, please be conscious of avoiding food products containing nuts in your child's lunchbox. This is a part of our school's risk management policy regarding allergies and anaphylaxis.

Volunteer Opportunities

Classroom Helpers

We will commence welcoming parent volunteers in the classroom from Week 3 (4/08). In adherence with our school’s Volunteer Policy, you must have a current Working With Children Check and have previously completed the Parent Helper course. A sign-up spreadsheet has been shared with parents, which will state the available days and times.

Home Learning:

This term, students will commence some short inquiry-based homework tasks starting from Week 1. These tasks will be connected to our Inquiry focus for the term, which is ‘How can we use the Earth’s resources sustainably?’ Students will continue to complete these short tasks in their homework book which must be handed in by Friday morning. Each student will have a copy of the homework instructions glued into their homework books. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions.

In addition to homework, it is imperative that students continue to consolidate their learning at school by reading at home for at least 20 minutes each day. This practice is imperative in ensuring students have ample opportunity to consolidate reading fluency and comprehension strategies and promotes retention of these strategies in long-term memory.

  • Students should continue to swap take-home readers on a daily basis. Parents should refer to their reading guide which contains prompting questions to support your child’s comprehension.
  • Students should continue to utilise Nessy (literacy) and Matific (mathematics) to further consolidate their learning. Where relevant, students should complete assigned work that is targeted at their point of need. Please note that the login for Nessy will change as of August 4th - teachers will send home new login details shortly which will have a QR code and emoji login.
  • A variety of resources aimed at assisting you in supporting your child’s learning at home are available via Compass. To access these resources, click School Resources > Parent Documents > Supporting Your Child At Home.
