T3 2025

World Cultures Day

On World Cultures Day at the end of last term, the Cultural Hub was open at lunch time and over 30 students participated in cultural activities.

SAHMRI visit

This week Courtney and Talisha from SAHMRI visited our school and presented 2 sessions for the First Nations students, one for the Reception to year 2s and the other session for the Year 3-6 students.  The sessions were to promote their book “Walk Strong, Walk Tall” and teach First Nations students about foot health and diabetes. The sessions were age appropriate. The Reception to year 2 students listened to the story Walk Strong, Walk Tall and discussed how to look after their feet, then traced their foot and decorated it. the Year 3-6 students watched 2 videos and learnt about how to keep their feet healthy. They also were able to use a mini doppler as an ultrasound to hear the blood moving in their vein and artery in their wrist and a tuning fork to feel the vibration on their arm.

Some comments from the students:

Rhylan: The blood moving through my veins sounded like footsteps.

Lulu: Blood goes sticky if you are diabetic and don’t manage your diet.

Harley: You needed gel on your wrist to use the doppler to hear the blood flowing.

Conan: If you are diabetic and eat too much sugar, your blood can get sticky and not flow properly to your feet.

Mason: It is important to eat healthy food.

Ashton, Layla, Kaelyn: Liked the vibration of the tuning fork.

Athena: I liked everything.

Lucas: Sometimes people with diabetes can’t feel things in their feet.

Amahlee: I liked using the doppler.

Archie: I liked the model of the foot.
