Principal's Page

What a wonderful performance we all had the joy of witnessing last Wednesday! A huge congratulations to our talented students—their hard work, energy, and enthusiasm truly lit up the stage. It wasn't just about music or dance; it was about teamwork, creativity, confidence. and courage The students showed us all what can happen when they’re given the chance to shine.
To Jasmine Gregory, thank you for your guidance and dedication in bringing this performance to life. Jas was the creator, choreographer and producer. We are extremely fortunate to have someone with so much talent on staff. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the performance and families for your support.
Grandparents & Special Friends Day
It was fantastic to see so many Grandparents and special friends on Friday. I enjoyed watching the students interacting with them and proudly showing them our school. Celebrating Grandparents Day is important because it recognises the valuable role grandparents and special friends play in families and society. Promoting intergenerational learning and spending time with grandparents teaches children empathy, patience, respect, and life lessons that can’t be found in books or online.
Confirmation
Congratulations to the Year 5/6 students who are celebrating the sacrament of Confirmation this Saturday at St Patrick's Cathedral. Students will be participating in a reflection day at Blairgowrie Yacht Club tomorrow and an excursion to St Patrick's Cathedral and the Mary Mackillop Centre on Thursday.
St Joseph's Award
Congratulations to Evie Howell and Skyla Mesiano who received the St Joseph's Award last week, for consistently upholding our school values and behaviour expectations of being respectful, being safe and being a learner.
Lunch Orders
Thank you to Rose (Eleanna - Prep) and Happiness First for providing a lunch order service for our families every Thursday. Orders need to be in by 5:00pm of the Tuesday before. Here is the link to the ordering site. Year Six canteen and Fun Food Fridays will continue this term.
Prep 100 days
Congratulations to our Prep students who are celebrating their 100 days of school today. Its been fantastic to see how much they have learnt and progressed in just 100 days. Imagine them in another 100 days!
Their Care Out of School Hours Care
Their Care will cease the out of school hours care service on the site of Sorrento Primary School the end of this term. I am presently looking at options for our families and will communicate these with you.
Term Three Closure Day
There is one School Closure day this term. It is on Monday 25th August. Staff will be participating in professional learning about the explicit teaching of Writing. Please email me if you are finding supervision of your child/children challenging.
Science & Bullying No Way Weeks
All students participate in a weekly Science lesson at St Joseph's. Teaching science is critically important because it helps individuals and societies understand, navigate, and improve the world. It develops critical thinking and drives innovation. Next week is National Science Week. Students will participate in a Mad About science incursion on Tuesday 12th August.
Next week is also Bullying No Way - National Week of Action (Mon 11th-Fri 15th Aug).
This year’s theme for Bullying No Way Week, “Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.”, reminds us of the importance of treating each other with kindness and to be brave in standing up for others who are being bullied.
