Indigenous Literacy Day

Indigenous Literacy Day is a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving Indigenous languages, cultures, and knowledge systems. It’s about empowering communities to take pride in their heritage and providing the tools for future generations to thrive. Literacy isn’t just about reading and writing; it’s about preserving stories, traditions, and identity.

The library of Evans High School is proud to have celebrated the Indigenous Literacy Day. All Year 7 students had the opportunity to enjoy watching a live-streamed short film run by the Sydney Opera House Digital Creative Team.

To emphasise the importance of this day in our school, the library has displayed enticing books and other materials showcasing Indigenous literacy and focusing on stories about the traditions and identity of the Indigenous People.

New series to the library

Chainsaw Man Series

Filled with mind-bending action and dark humour, the wild and unpredictable world of Chainsaw Man manga is not your typical shonen series. But Chainsaw Man manga isn't just about the wild artwork – it's a rollercoaster of emotions. Fujimoto seamlessly blends heart-wrenching moments with intense action sequences, leaving readers on the edge of their seats. It's a twisted and unpredictable narrative that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Tackling mature themes such as life, death, and the true nature of humanity – with a much-needed sprinkle of some well-timed humour to lighten the mood – Chainsaw Man manga is unlike other horror manga series. If you're looking for a manga series that breaks the mould and takes you on a wild, chainsaw-wielding ride, Chainsaw Man is a must-read

Note: Chainsaw Man Books are restricted to students aged 16 or over year old, so juniors who’d like to read these books need to provide a signed permission slip from their parents/guardians. Please see our school librarian for the permission note.

Marco's always done the right thing. But now it's time for wrong answers only. Marco should be at university, studying biomedicine. Instead, he’s been sent to live on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean with his estranged uncle, all because of a ‘blip’ everyone else is convinced was a panic attack. (Which it most definitely was not.). And even though Marco’s trip is supposed to provide answers – about himself, about his family – all he finds on board the Ocean Melody are more and more questions.

But then his best friend CeCe proposes a new plan: for someone who has always done the right thing, in every possible way, it’s time for Marco to get a few things wrong. And hooking up with a hot dancer from the ship is only the beginning . . .

‘Wrong Answers Only shines. It is a wonderfully funny and heartfelt novel that is also intensely, relatably human.’ JENNIFER NIVEN, #1 New York Times bestselling author of All the Bright Places
