Vocational Education (VET)

At Evans High School, Vocational Education and Training (VET) provides students with valuable opportunities to gain practical skills, industry experience, and nationally recognised qualifications while completing their HSC. Our two VET courses — Hospitality and Entertainment — give students hands-on learning that connects directly to future career pathways.

Hospitality

This term has been both busy and rewarding for our Hospitality students as they continue to develop their skills and confidence. Each Wednesday morning, they have proudly run the Evans Café, preparing and serving a range of hot drinks for staff and students while demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and customer service. Students also completed a week of work placement across a variety of venues, where they experienced first-hand the demands and rewards of the hospitality industry while completing their 35 required hours. On top of this, they sat their trial HSC examinations, a key step in their preparation for the final HSC later in Term 4. Their hard work and commitment this term are a credit to them as they head towards this important milestone.

Entertainment

This semester, our HSC Entertainment students have reached an important milestone by successfully completing all course content and practical experiences within Evans. Throughout the term, students have had the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world settings, running various assemblies and shows that have allowed them to showcase their talents in audio, lighting, and vision mixing.

In audio, students developed their technical expertise by managing soundboards, setting up microphones, and ensuring clear and balanced audio for each event. Their understanding of sound dynamics and equipment operation has grown significantly, enabling them to deliver professional-quality sound experiences.

When it comes to lighting, students have demonstrated creativity and precision by designing and executing lighting plans that enhance the mood and atmosphere of each performance. They have gained hands-on experience operating lighting consoles, adjusting dimmers, and using lighting gels and gobos to create dynamic visual effects that bring productions to life.

In vision, students have demonstrated a great ability to coordinate with the rest of the production team, which has been vital in delivering seamless shows. Having gained invaluable practical experience, our students are now fully engaged in preparing for the upcoming HSC exam.

The Entertainment course continues to be a highlight for many students, who express a genuine passion for the subject and the opportunities it provides. Throughout the semester, they have thrived in this creative and collaborative environment, developing both their technical abilities and confidence. We are incredibly proud of their progress and look forward to celebrating their continued success as they complete their HSC journey.
