What Did You Do At School?

Prep
The Prep students have had a delightful start to the year. We have been busy learning how to line up, cut, paste, and hold a pencil.
This week, we experienced full days at school for the first time. We enjoyed our first Chapel and attended Performing Arts and Christian Studies lessons. It is amazing to see how we are growing and flourishing.
Year 1
What an exciting start to the year for our Year 1s! We have eagerly explored new play areas, including the Year 1 playground, the carpark area, and the sandpit. While this has given us more room to move, the real highlight so far has been the excitement of heading to the canteen for icy poles at lunchtime and the thrill of crossing the yellow line!
As we settle into our classroom routines and learn the expectations of Year 1, we are developing greater independence while forming wonderful new friendships. This term, we have been enthusiastically diving into new subjects like Science, sparking curiosity and discovery.
We pray that this year will be filled with growth, joy, and many rich learning experiences. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Year 2
What an exciting start to the year we have had! We were so excited to have our first lesson strings with Mrs Bills, Mrs Radford and Mrs van Pinxteren (Mrs VP). It was wonderful listening to them play the instruments. After that, we were given the opportunity to choose which instrument we wanted to learn. A week later, we found out what instrument we would be learning and had our very first lesson. Right now, we are learning how to make music. We are very sure by the end of the year you will all be so proud of our progress. If all that is not exciting enough, we are doing an experiment in Science with Mrs Bonte where we all get to have a turn to look after our special plants.
Year 3
Ms Kapusi and Mrs Drew have loved getting to know the incredible, intelligent, thoughtful Year 3 students over the last few weeks. We have been immersed in the journey European convicts had to take on the way to Australia in 1788 on the First Fleet. As we imagined how we would have felt upon The Charlotte, we were filled with hopes for fresh food, the wish for the comfort of our family and the regret of our crimes. In Mathematics, we have begun to practise our addition facts through some fast-paced dice games and activities. Ask us to introduce these to you at home – you will be up against some fierce competition!
Year 4
We have had an exciting start to the year with so many new things to learn and new friends to meet. In Mathematics we had the challenge to fit our whole group through an A4 piece of paper! We had to keep the A4 piece of paper as one continuous loop and we were not allowed to use sticky tape, staples or the twisting of paper to join the loop together. We trialled many different ideas and came up with many creative solutions.
The next thing we are looking forward to is camp in Week 8. We can’t wait to ride horses and try archery. We all think we are going to get a bullseye!
Year 5
What an incredible start to 2025! We have enjoyed building new friendships and getting to know our new teachers. We loved attending our first 5/6 Sport session. As a cohort, we are looking forward to growing in our sportsmanship and developing our team skills. Another highlight has been participating in the instrumental program. We were extremely excited to play our instruments for the first time and bring them home.
As you can imagine, we have been eagerly awaiting our camp to Sovereign Hill. Last week, we headed back in time to the 1850s to learn about the Gold Rush and life in the past. Stay tuned for the next edition of The Vine to hear about our incredible adventure!
Year 6
We have so much to look forward to this year! We are taking the responsibility of leading the Junior School seriously, knowing that our actions set an example for the younger students. Special programs like 5/6 Sport, Instrumental Music and ensembles have already begun and we were so excited to meet our new Prep Buddies this week.
In Integrated Studies, we are learning about the systems of our democratic country and are excited to see our knowledge come to life when we go to Canberra this year.
Miss Driessen and Mrs Bradshaw are very proud of the fabulous start we have made to our final year of Junior School.
