Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

Well the first full week of the year has certainly dealt out some scorching hot days! But this did not deter our staff or students. Everyone has helped to ensure the calm and positive start we had in week one has continued into week 2.

Arthur, our Cape Street crossing supervisor, was humbled by a thoughtful and kind gesture of one of our families. On a very hot afternoon, he was given a bottle of water to cool him down and keep him hydrated. What a fabulous demonstration of values we encourage here at HPS. Thank you for looking out for others and being considerate of everyone in our community.

SWBPS

At Heidelberg PS we follow a School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) which is an evidence-based school improvement approach that creates a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours while providing targeted assistance to students who may need extra support, leading to a more successful and inclusive learning community. When implemented well, it ensures that all students receive support to maximise behavioural, wellbeing and academic growth.

The approach also improves teacher wellbeing by providing them with the tools to establish positive climates for learning where they can focus on teaching and learning, by increasing engagement and instructional time.

SWPBS is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.                  

Positive Behaviour Demonstration Awards

Staff are always on the look out for students who stand out through their demonstration of what we highly value at our school; Respect, Responsibility, Compassion and Resilience. When staff observe acts or behaviours that go above and beyond, they are awarded a Positive Behaviour Demonstration Principal Award at the next whole school assembly. Parents/ Carers are advised through Compass when their child will receive an award. 

HPS Family Picnic
