Leadership Report

A big thank you from us to all the families who braved the hot weather to attend Acquaintance Night last Wednesday. We had a great turn out. We appreciated the level of interest in how classes will be running this year and the opportunity to connect with families. It was great to see children working with their parents to find the various sites on their Scavenger Hunt and particularly rewarding to see everyone enjoying their ice blocks!
The AGM was also well attended, and 15 Governing Councilors were elected to help with the governance of the school for 2025. Please consider taking on an active role in one of our sub-committees.
The new playground has been a huge success during school, at OSHC and on the weekends. The variety of options on offer provides creativity, challenge and excitement. It was great to see many smiling faces and children working together to build dams, push each other on the swings and race down the slide.
Classes have settled well into their learning routines. Spending the first few weeks building a positive classroom culture and getting to know the individuals who make up the new class groups has helped to establish a sense of connection.
By next week many of the small group interventions will have started. These provide an opportunity to target literacy, numeracy, and social skill development. We use a set of guidelines to select students for these interventions and then monitor progress, making changes where necessary. Our capable team of Student Support Officers provide the opportunity for students to have extra practice in small groups during these interventions.
Our Pupil Free Day on Monday was spent exploring elements of the incoming South Australian Curriculum, with our new Assistant Principal Sonia Magon. Staff also worked collaboratively to analyse data and plan to meet the needs of students in their classes.
Our next Pupil Free Day on the 17th March will give staff an opportunity to explore the instructional strategies teachers can use depending on where students are at in their learning. Brendan Lee will be coming from NSW to work with us on this day. He is a leader, teacher and podcaster, who has a wealth of information to share.
Keep cool over the next few days.
Kind regards,
Daniela Lawlor
Deputy Principal
