Getting back into the swing of things

As we ease into the new school year, we know that every family—and every child—experiences this transition a little differently. Some students bound through the gates on day one as if they never left, reconnecting with friends and routines instantly. Others take a little longer to find their rhythm, and that’s completely normal. We’ve seen every version of “back to school,” and we’re right here with you as your child settles in.

To help make these first few weeks smoother, a few simple routines at home can make a big difference:

Start with the Mornings

  • A predictable morning routine helps children feel calm and prepared for the day.
  • Try to keep wake-up times consistent, even on weekends while everyone is adjusting.
  • A nourishing breakfast—whatever that looks like for your family—sets them up with the energy they need to learn and play.

Keep Things Simple at First

It can be tempting to jump straight back into after‑school activities, playdates, and weekend commitments. But giving your child a little breathing room in these early weeks can help them settle more comfortably. Reducing extra events for a short time often helps children regulate their energy and emotions as they adjust to the school routine again.

Homework Routines That Work

Homework doesn’t need to be stressful. A few small strategies can make it feel manageable:

  • Create a consistent homework space—quiet, comfortable, and free from distractions.
  • Work with your child to set up a realistic timetable that fits your family’s schedule.
  • Break tasks into smaller steps so they feel achievable rather than overwhelming.
  • Celebrate effort, not perfection.

We’re Here to Support You

If something isn’t quite working whether it’s mornings, homework, friendships, or the general transition, please reach out. A quick chat with the classroom teacher can often make a world of difference. We’re always happy to work with you to find strategies that suit your child’s needs.

Every child settles in at their own pace. Some take off quickly, others warm up slowly, and both are completely okay. What matters most is that they feel supported at home and at school. We’re here to navigate the ups and downs with you, and we’re looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth together.

Thank you for your ongoing support,
