The 5/6s have had another busy two weeks and have been doing an amazing job.
We have continued reading our class novel Blueback by Tim Winton and have been learning about the use of figurative language and how this helps the reader understand and connect with the text. We have been identifying similes, metaphors and personification in the text and discussing the author's message.

Students are completing a persuasive writing piece. These are in the process being published and will be included in their portfolios. They have been focusing on the text structure, effective topic sentences and persuasive devices to enhance their argument.
We have been looking at multiplication and division and understanding that these are inverse operations. Students learnt that if they know multiplication they can use that knowledge to solve division problems. We have been showing these as fact families and beginning to use these skills to solve equations with unknown quantities.
For many of our students, the highlight of our week is interschool sports. We have played home games the last two weeks and are very proud of the sportsmanship and positive attitudes of our students.
Naplan Commences in Week 7 for students in Years 3 and 5. Here is the timetable below.
Wednesday 11th March: Writing
Thursday 12th March: Reading
Friday 13th March: Conventions of Language
Monday 16th March: Numeracy
Tuesday 17th – Thursday 19th March: Catch-up sessions for absent students
Although it is important for students to be well rested during the Naplan testing period, we do not want them to feel stressed or anxious about taking the tests. Naplan is a snapshot of their learning on the day. It's important to encourage your child to simply do their best and ensure they read the questions carefully.
