Kia Ora Friends
It's hard to believe we are already at the end of term one. One of the things about this job is that there are always so many cool things happening and wonderful people to connect with. Time really does fly!
Last week, we continued our fine sporting tradition of winning most of whichever sporting events we enter. Western Heights is blessed with several outstanding coaches, especially Tim Taura and Nuree Greenhalgh, in our senior school. We can add to them, Abdel Ramadan, in our middle school, and Karamea Matthes, support staff.
Karamea coaches our Senior Girls Touch Team every year, and the quality of their gameplay improves every time under her guidance.
This year, they won every game until they hit the semi-final, where things suddenly didn't go to plan. They came back from that, though, to take out third place in their final game.
Our Senior Boys Touch Team has won the Zone Touch Champs for seven years in a row now. This year, they won every game all the way to the final. In fact, no team even scored against them until their semi-final.
This school holiday break, I am travelling to Savaii, Samoa, with my wife Jacqualene, who is principal of Mangere Central School. Several of her teachers are accompanying us on a Pay It Forward Trip. One of Jacq's teachers, Novena, is from a village in Savaii, and we will be supporting her school there. We will bring teaching and sports resources to donate to Novena's school and provide free professional development for their teachers.
Whatever you have planned for these holidays, I hope and trust the weather will be kind, the traffic manageable, and the prices doable. I will look forward to seeing all our tino taonga (precious ones) back safe and sound and ready to learn next term on Monday, 20 April at 8:55 am.
As always, if you have questions or concerns about anything school-related, email me at macash@mac.com, and I will get back to you asap.
PS
Check out the Concerns and Complaints page in this newsletter to learn about the process for addressing concerns, issues, or complaints.
My very best regards to you all,
Ash Maindonald
Principal.
