🍵Kinder Parents Morning Tea
What a lovely morning welcoming our new Kinder families at the Penguin Country Bakehouse last Friday. It was so special to see parents and guardians from across our community come together over a cuppa, connect with one another, and begin building friendships that will grow alongside their children. We've been doing so since 1976 and by God's grace, we will continue to partner with parents and guardians for the next 50 years.
Thank you to everyone who joined us from both the Burnie and Ulverstone campuses—we are excited for the year ahead and grateful to walk this Kinder journey with you. 🌱✨
eSafety
With Term 1 upon us, now is the perfect time to have conversations with your children about online safety. The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) has practical resources to help with hard-to-have conversations, information for children under 5 and cyberbullying. To learn more, visit https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents and share this with your friends and family!
UNIFORM POLICY - EMAIL ADDRESS
It has been great to see some of our students wearing the new uniform items which were introduced from the start of this year. A reminder that there is a 2 year transition period so the new items will not become compulsory until the start of the 2028 year.
An EdSmart broadcast highlighting changes which have been made to the Uniform Policy by our Senior Leadership Team will be communicated out to parents in the next days. The updated Uniform Policy will also be included.
To ensure feedback in regard to our Uniform Policy is followed up via the correct process, please email: uniform@leighland.tas.edu.au
All emails are then referred to our Uniform Committee for discussion at future meetings. The Uniform Committee consists of our Principals, staff representatives, parent representatives from both campuses, and student leader representatives. The committee aim to meet once per term.
Canteen
A friendly reminder to update your child's Year Level & Class in the QKR App to ensure any canteen orders go to the right class. Thank you
NAPLAN 2026
Students will be sitting NAPLAN between 11 and 23 March 2026
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.
Students will complete tests in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
NAPLAN has been held in March since 2023, having previously taken place in May. This change was made so school systems would have access to results earlier in the school year. These results can then be used to inform teaching and learning plans for the remainder of the year.
Why NAPLAN is conducted online
NAPLAN online provides a better assessment and more precise results.
One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it uses tailored (or adaptive) testing. This means that students receive questions better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do.
Online testing also allows us to provide a wide range of accessibility options to support students with disability to access NAPLAN.
Feedback from students is that they find the online test more engaging.
Please note that students in Year 3 complete the Writing Test on paper.
