The Wellbeing Team warmly welcome all students and families, new and returning, to the beginning of the new school year and extend a special welcome to our Prep students and their families as they commence their schooling journey with us. It has been lovely to see all of the smiling faces making their way to their new classes.  The start of the year is an exciting time, marked by new opportunities for learning, growth and connection across our school community.

For many children, particularly our youngest learners, the beginning of the year can bring a mix of excitement and nerves. The early weeks of school are an important period of adjustment, connections and new environments. Establishing consistent routines at both school and home plays a key role in supporting student wellbeing and readiness for learning. Clear routines around morning preparation, attendance, bedtime and daily expectations help children feel secure, develop independence and engage positively in their learning environment. When routines are predictable and consistent, students are better able to manage transitions, build confidence and focus on their learning.

Here are some helpful suggestions to assist with your daily routine:

Prepare the night before

Lay out clothes, pack school bags, and prepare lunches the night before. This reduces the morning rush and ensures nothing stays behind.

Set a consistent wake-up time

Consistency helps children know what to expect and makes mornings less stressful. Set a reasonable bedtime to ensure they get enough sleep.

Create a visual schedule

Use a chart with pictures to outline the morning routine. This can include tasks like brushing teeth, getting dressed, and eating breakfast. Visual schedules help children stay on track without needing a parent to point the way.

Healthy breakfast

A nutritious breakfast is crucial for energy and concentration. Include a balance of protein, whole grains, and fruits.

Build in extra time

Allow a little extra time for unexpected delays. This helps prevent the morning from feeling rushed and stressful.

We look forward to working in partnership with all of our families to support all students as they settle into the school year. Together, we can ensure a positive and successful start for every child.
