Attendance & Engagement

Welcome Back to Our School Community
Welcome back to another exciting year of learning! It has been wonderful to see students returning to school with enthusiasm, reconnecting with friends, and settling into new routines and classrooms.
As we begin the Year, our focus is on attendance, engagement and strong partnerships with families. The start of the Year is a crucial time for establishing routines, building relationships and setting students up for success, and regular attendance plays a key role in this.
📅 Every Day Counts
Being at school every day supports students to:
- build strong relationships with peers and teachers
- develop consistent learning habits and routines
- feel confident, connected and ready to learn
make steady academic and social progress
Even missing a small number of days can impact a child's learning, particularly early in the Year when foundational skills, expectations and classroom culture are being established.
We understand that absences are sometimes unavoidable, and when this happens, clear communication helps us best support your child.
📝 How to Notify the School of an Absence
If your child is absent from school for any reason, families are required to notify the school on the day of the absence.
Notifying via Xuno
- Log in to Xuno
- Select your child's profile
- Choose the Absence Notification option
- Enter the date and reason for the absence
- Submit the notification
If you are unable to access Xuno
Please get in touch with the school directly by phone or email to notify us of your child's absence. Our office staff are happy to assist if you experience any difficulties.
Please note that while notifying the classroom teacher directly can help us understand your circumstances, it's always best to also log the absence on Xuno.
✈️ Family Holidays During School Term
We strongly encourage families to plan holidays during school term breaks wherever possible. This helps minimise disruption to learning and supports students to remain connected to their class and routines.
If a family holiday during school term is unavoidable:
- A Family Holiday Notification must be submitted via email two weeks prior to the leave occurring
- This ensures accurate attendance records and allows the school to meet Department of Education requirements
While teachers are unable to provide work in advance for holidays taken during term time, maintaining open communication helps us understand your family's circumstances and support your child's transition back to school.
🤝 Engagement Matters — Especially Early in the Year
The beginning of the school year is a vital time for engagement. Students are learning:
- classroom expectations and routines
- how to manage themselves as learners
- how to build positive relationships
- what learning looks and feels like at their year level
Regular attendance during this time supports confidence, belonging and wellbeing, setting students up for a successful year ahead.
👋 Meet & Greet Sessions
On Tuesday the 17th of February families are invited to our Meet & Greet sessions across our Primary School (P-6). These sessions are an important opportunity to:
- build strong relationships with teachers
- share important information about your child
- discuss how we can work together to support learning and wellbeing
Please access Xuno to book your session time or speak with your childs classroom teacher and they'll be able to book on your behalf.
Sessions and details for our Senior School students will be shared soon.
💬 Staying Connected – We're Here to Support
We value open and ongoing communication with families. When we understand the context of what is happening for your family, we are better placed to:
- provide appropriate support
- connect families with additional resources if needed
- work collaboratively to support student engagement and wellbeing
If you have concerns about attendance, routines, or anything impacting your child's engagement with school, we encourage you to reach out early. Together, we can work towards positive outcomes for every student.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting attendance, engagement and a strong start to the Year for all students.
