Each of our teachers brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the classroom and is spending the first weeks of the year building connections and relationships within the classroom.

Our goal is to build a culture of trust and respect across the Year Five cohort, with a strong sense of belonging for all.

First 20 days

At the beginning of the year, we embark on our learning journey across all areas of the curriculum with our First 20 days concept, which facilitates routines, processes, and consistent expectations allowing students to voice their ideas in each of these areas. We combine this with our learning program in preparation for the NAPLAN test.

NAPLAN 2026

A key milestone for our Year Five students is the NAPLAN test, which assesses literacy and numeracy skills. This year, NAPLAN takes takes place between March 11th - March 23rd and will be conducted online. The assessment provides valuable insight into student progress and areas for further development. We will spend time within our lessons to unpack how the test works and review key concepts and strategies to assist in preparing students.

Uniform and SunSmart Policy

At Saltwater College, we take pride in our school uniform as it promotes a sense of belonging and respect. We kindly ask students to wear the correct uniform each day in a neat and tidy manner. Students may wear their PE uniform in the day they have their allocated PE class and are invited to also wear this on Friday

As we are in the summer months, we remind families that hats are compulsory during Term One and Term Four when outdoors. In the primary school, wide brimmed or bucket hats (no baseball caps) are permitted within our Sun Smart Policy. Students without a hat will be required to stay in the shaded area near the canteen during recess and lunch as well sit in the shade during any outdoor activity.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of wearing a hat and the expectations of this to set your child up for success.
