Joshua Sheffield Image: Green Warriors of 2025
We are almost at the end of Term 1 already. There has been so much that has occurred throughout the past ten weeks that it’s hard to imagine how it was all squeezed in. From swimming carnivals, to African Drumming, multiple excursions, 3-6 sport, Foundation students starting, NAPLAN, student exhibitions and a number of parent events, it’s not surprising it has passed by so quickly.
I hope that the coming weeks, and in particular the Easter and ANZAC weekends, provide a time for you all to reset, recharge and reconnect (with each other, not our phones!). I wish you all a very safe and fabulous time, and perhaps even a little indulgence – of chocolate of course!
A reminder that the first week back is a very odd one, with students only at school 2 days. They are returning Tuesday 22nd after Easter Monday, there is a Curriculum Day on Thursday 24th followed by the ANZAC public holiday on Friday 25th.
Congratulations to our Green Warriors (photo above) who were nominated by their peers and presented with their badges at assembly on Friday. I know they will do a wonderful job of supporting their class mates and our school to be more sustainable and environmentally responsible throughout the year.
Students have strengths in all areas and we are proud of the wide range of opportunities for enrichment and extensions at our school. Over the past year, we have worked closely with the Leadership Team, external organisations, and knowledgeable others to review, identify and capture these opportunities both within the classroom and through intervention programs.
The culmination of this is an evidence-based bank of strategies that teachers are able to draw upon to support highly-able students within the classroom, as well as a suite of opportunities for students to be extended through withdrawal programs. You will find an overview of the offerings on the Curriculum page of this newsletter. Selection processes for most of these will be managed internally through a combination of data and teacher judgement. Whilst your child may be ahead of expectation, it does not guarantee participation as often numbers are limited and places go to those who are highest performing or will benefit most.
This overview continues to grow and evolve as new opportunities arise and we trust that those children who participate will thrive in what is available to them
Thank you to Lucy & Max D, who over the weekend, hosted a stall of sausages and trading cards to raise some funds for our school. They raised $29.50, which they have chosen to donate to purchasing plants for the evolving Kitchen Garden space. This is greatly appreciated and their initiative and generosity are wonderful to see.
Unfortunately we have had a bike stolen from the bike shed recently. This is a rare occurrence, however even once is once too many times, and serves as an important reminder to use bike locks. The shed is locked between 9-3:30pm however there are sometimes windows between dropping bikes off before 9:00am or if students are a few minutes late to collect that allow for opportunities for them to be taken.
The missing bike is a Specialized Rockhopper (image provided). If you know of its whereabouts, please let the office know.
