PE Round Up - Term 1

Laverton District Swimming Sports
To the students, thanks again for your wonderful interest and efforts to come along to our school swimming trials. Always exciting to see some of our young and upcoming swimmers coming along for their first time. We had many Grade 3s there to give it their all. From here, 29 students were selected to represent Altona Green in the District Swimming Competition that followed on at Werribee Pool on Friday the 21st of February. And the weather was perfect! Thank you, Melbourne!!!
Students competed in many of the individual swimming strokes like freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke, as well as relay events. Altona Green stood out as having the most students represented across a wide range of age groups for the Butterfly stroke, one of the hardest to do. A big well done to those who gave it a shot! That’s a tough ask! It was amazing to have so many parents come along to support the students and cheer them on throughout the whole day. Much appreciated! And lastly to the wonderful AGPS staff, Zach and Sammy, for looking after the troops all day ensuring a great day had by all.
Hobsons Bay Division Swimming Carnival
Some students advanced to the next level which meant they then competed against other districts in the Hobsons Bay Division. Michael B, Rosie C, Emilia F, Josie H and Alex P all featured in their own individual events. Our 9/10-year girls, including Ella L, Tilly T, Gracie W and Emilia F, also went along for the freestyle relay race. It was a tough day at the office, but everyone had a good day I believe! Thanks again to our committed parents who made time in their day to make arrangements for their child to get to experience this event.
Summer Interschool Sports Results
On Thursday 20th of March, some students travelled to Altona Sports Centre for basketball, others went on further to Altona Hockey Club for their chosen sport of hockey, whilst the rest attempted the sport of Cricket back at school on our grounds. It was windy and challenging to play in those conditions outdoors for hockey and cricket, but we did our best. The luxury was playing indoors for basketball!!!
Friday 21st of March saw the playoffs for Tee Ball and Red Ball Tennis take place in even worse conditions with on again, off again rain. A really, big thanks to Eugene, Travis, Vera, Cameron and Sarah for persevering with natures unexpected call and preparing for and attending those events on their respective days.
The biggest thanks of all goes to those students who volunteered to play in a second team, so that all students got their first preference to play in their nominated sport this summer series. I was overwhelmed with the support and kindness shown by our Grade 6s who stepped up to my call for help. Marvellous AGPS!!! You are all winners in my eyes😊
